Agreed. I have subject recognition mapped to a top button for this reason.

I know you have asked about zooms but I decided on a couple of primes for the same purpose on an A7Riii. The A7Riii is a little less chunky than the A1 and the Loxia 35mm is a sweet lens (manual ...

Thanks for your thoughts. Looking at this: https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/image-comparison?attr18=daylight&attr13_0=nikon_z6ii&attr13_1=sony_a9ii&attr13_2=sony_a7rv&attr13_3=sony_a7iii&attr15_0=r ...

Looking at dxomark sensor ratings for High ISO performance called 'Sports' which they define as "The SNR indicates how much noise is present in an image compared to the actual image information ...

I had the A9 and it was more than capable in low light. For me low light is ISO 12800, 1/125 and f1.4 which is a few stops higher than -3ev. I guess you wont want above ISO 12800 and you probably ...

I was of the understanding that focus acquisition, focus speed and tracking have all improved in later models. Also, I think the original A9 only had one UHSii card slot. Granted the rolling ...

Coming from the R5 to the A7Rv I am finding the focus and recompose technique quite liberating and finding less use for the joystick. I don't think I've arrived at an optimal group of settings yet ...

Does anyone know what the likely release date will be for the A9iii? Is there a photography show coming up in Feb?
-
Could it be Priority Set in AF-C? Is it set to Release? Try changing that to AF.

I have it with the 35GM and have no problems with focusing on our fast moving grand children.

I would be happy to argue on either side of this debate. 😂

Because there is only one AF method that does tracking. When this one does not behave the next best thing is to switch off subject detection. Switching custom modes to achieve this has worked best ...

That's a pity it would have been very useful. I photograph people on stage in mixed lighting. Setting subject = people works 90% of the time but if it can't see a face it prefers a different face ...

Interesting read. I am thinking of using 1:1 as a creative constraint too

That's weird I have not got that option ( Direct Select Of Subj To Detect). I'm on firmware 1.7 too.

Yes it's all very subjective. Over a period of time I have come to prefer out of focus areas to be recognisable which fits the 28mm "documentary" style of photography.

In the UK the VAT registration threshold is 85k so you have to be doing very well before you are forced to register. It would make more sense to start a second company and differentiate on ...

You have misread my meaning (or I didn't explain very well). Most pros are PAYING vat on purchases because they can't claim it back as they are not vat registered. We are in agreement :)

If you google "Leica q portrait" and click the images tab you will see that separation in this ballpark is actually very good. Not overdone but definitely easy to achieve at 28mm.

I spent some time with a Leica M and frame lines a few years ago. The frame lines have pros and cons. One benefit is you can see outside the frame. Missing frame lines are less easy to see what ...
