Peter K Burian: I got to shoot for a half hour with this new G7 thanks to Panasonic Canada. Very impressive. Super fast autofocus even in a dark interior. AND 4K video. Also, a 30 frame per second drive (using 4K) that provides 8 megapixel still photos. AND superb image quality at low ISO, Surprisingly nice at ISO 3200.

see photos at https://picasaweb.google.com/110698711952841559844/20150520 (These JPEGs were made using preliminary software so I cannot post high res photos. These were SIGNIFICANTLY downsized.)

Thanks but your link does not work

Davidbailey: this has got to be a record, had my LX100 for less than a week. its the most overpriced paperweight I have ever owned. totally over the top reviews. the image raw or jpg is on par with the RX100 Mk1 its ok if you have been using an iPhone as your main camera. I would imagine that's its even an upgrade, but after selling my X100s thinking that this would be more versatile, was I wrong. the lens is awful wide open not matter what zoom you use. the iso well I suppose its ok if you don't go above 800 but after that its noise city. thank got I sold it to some unsuspecting punter on eBay. I now have a Sony a6000 i,m not going to turn this post into a Sony review, but I am more than happy now.

and now New Year's Troll

Montana Floozie: This camera is a Nightstalker.
I've been using it for a week now, mostly at night, and its performance is just astounding. The fast lens, stabilization and ISO versatility make it perfect for my intended uses.
When Lightroom gets around to recognizing the LX100, I have the feeling more surprises are in store. And though I bought it for still photography, its video capability is just icing on the cake.
Just today I shot a couple frames for work in an extremely dim basement, and when I showed them to my co-workers -- who knew the location -- their reaction could be summed up in one word: disbelief. I couldn't believe it myself.

Tom Goodman: You give this camera a higher rating than the Sony RCX100 III yet in virtually every respect the Sony has equal or better performance specs. 85% vs 82%, the percentages are, as usual, misleading and completely arbitrary.

P.S. I don't own the Sony so all of you poised to accuse me of being a fan-boy are going to have to do better than that!!!!!!!

OK Richard
but you cannot definitelly score down huge 4K feature in balance with poorer focus peaking !
4k brings a lot better video IQ and also 4K photo mode which is also a big plus to put in the balance, and which you did not take in balance,
what do you think ?

I was not talking about the bar chart for ISO performance, but your answer to Tom, which was wrong taking into account your comments in the related High ISO page !

My remark for the bar chart was related to Movie/Video mode vs RX1000 III on par on your chart, despite of 4K capability for LX100, first compact to offer 4K !!!

Hi Richard
I am afraid you give a wrong answer to Tom about Low light / High Iso performance when you say "The RX100 III outscores the LX100 by a tiny margin in optics and high ISO performance".

In your studio comparison you mentionned the opposite:
> The LX100 does a fraction (around 1/2 a stop) better than the G7 X and RX100 III at high ISO, thanks to its larger sensor, which makes it the current low-light king amongst zoom compacts
>The pixel count means it's not quite as detailed at Low ISO as the RX100 III but this difference is reduced as the ISO rises - the LX100's larger sensor betters the performance of the smaller one in the Sony.

Another remark on your Conclusion commpare chart tool where you give a match between LX100 and RX100III video section , LX 100 beeing capable of 4K at 100 Mbps which is a very biig plus !!!!

4 months the review started and STILL NOT COMPLETED.

6 month GH4 is sold and 9 months it has been annnouced

It's a shame ! will you complete the review before the next products will be annouced ? NOT SURE !

munro harrap: The high iso performance at 3200 iso is so bad the machine certainly does not merit a gold award.Manual focus and zoom are also questionably defective-slow to the point of useless for exactly the kind of quick snap stills photographers buy this sort of thing. so I guess it gets Gold as it has 4K nobody can yet see or edit properly. As we cannot see its 4K movies at their resolution we do not know if it is any improvement on the HD we can see. All that glisters....

Yes, at this price its a steal-of your money!!!

@ sonics
Not at all, I can edit 4K in Premiere Pro quite easily with my 3 years old I7 Laptop.
Same goes for viewing 4K video which does not require 4K TV, and downscaling 4K to 1080p gives you 30% more resolution than native Ful HD video on FHD TV.

Strange that small upgrades makes 4 articles in 2 days for Nikon, when huge changes on Panasonic GH3 to GH4 (including 4K video) made only a short half-page quick summary article at annoucement and then NOTHING more after 5 month !

Shame on DPR for being so partial, that's NOT PROFESSIONAL at all !

How is this possible ? What as shame !!

Why this poor treatment for Panasonic product, as for the previous review of the GH3 only provided 7 month after annoucement and 5 month after sale !!

Why ?

GH4 4K files can be easily handled by my Core I7 4 years old 800$ HP laptop !
using either Premiere Pro or Pinnacle 17 inckuding color dorrection (magic bullet) and ohter effect without issue.

stratplaya: The vast majority of hardware can't handle 4K video decently. It'll be years for it to catch on, as with 1080p HD.

MrTaikitso: The man needs to get the late 2013 edition MacBook Pro with 1TB of SSD - that I am typing this on. Should handle the 4K video ok, although it will still get a little toasty until the fans kick in.

Boss of Sony: Why is the quality of the video so low? Hard to tell if the camera is any good if the uploaded video file is so compressed.

Just download the available 4K file from vimeo in order to judge real 4k IQ to avoid Vimeo compression and automatic resize to 720p
