HRC2016's current gear

Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-100mm F4.0 IS Pro
Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-50mm 1:3.5-6.3 EZ
Olympus M.Zuiko ED 75-300mm 1:4.8-6.7 II
The very best m43 zoom that I've used. Expensive and heavy but if it meets your needs then you won't be disappointed. If I had to choose only one lens, this would be it. The manual focus clutch will spoil you.
Handy range, versatile and smal/light. When it was new it could be had cheaply (I paid less than $150). A good entry-level lens for video and still photographers!
The very best m43 telephoto value that I've used. Very good IQ, light and affordable. Many photographers think you need a longer focal length for good results but if your technique and field craft are good you won't need anything longer than this. Truly a fun lens to use.
Panasonic Lumix G Vario 45-200mm F4-5.6 OIS
Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | C
This is the original version, which is available at very good prices used thanks to others' need for shiny new toys. The new version is not something I recommend as the upgrade is minimal. This older version performs very well, and is an especially good value used.
An adapted lens that has brought me a lot of joy. Sure, your keeper rate won't compare to a native lens but, if your technique and fieldcraft are good, you'll have a lot of fun nonetheless.
Other gear:
  • Accessories Sirui T-025X (tripod), Decade mini tripod-base (for low-angle photography), Mindshift Ultralight (backpack)
  • My brain and experience More important than gear is knowing how to use it and understanding your subject. That can only be acquired with reading and experience.

HRC2016's previous gear

Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm F4-5.6 R
Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmar 100-400mm F4.0-6.3 ASPH Power OIS
Panasonic Lumix G Vario 12-60mm F3.5-5.6 ASPH Power OIS
I believe this is overpriced at $99. If it's all you can afford I'd suggest another hobby. The Panasonic 45-200 used should be considered instead.
Owned four copies and returned them all. Tried three others in stores that I did not purchase. Problems included not fitting the body/leaving metal shavings inside the body, erratic misfocusing and extremely stiff zoom ring (requiring holding the lens and turning the camera. Yes, this was with the zoom lock disengaged.
Mediocre lems that is overpriced.
Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 12-60mm F2.8-4.0 ASPH Power OIS
Much too expensive, not worth the upgrade from the Lumix 12-60. Pay a little more and get the Oly 12-100 instead (assuming you can handle the weight, and live with its awesome features and outstanding image quality).
Other gear:
  • Gear that I've used and do not recommend:Panasonic 100-400, Vanguard 235 AB (tripod), Vanguard Sedona (sliing), Platypod
