Good to have an option if my Samyang ever dies.

Wonder if Viltrox will get sued by Canon (if that actually happened) like Samyang did
Likely China cares less than Korea!

I can certainly see why they would make the change, to link the video and photo side of things together.
Plus Sony's lens selection is still the best variety wise.

However also understand this is a commercial decision as much if not more than technical one.
Sony would have presented a huge discount on the new equipment, free servicing etc to get this over the line
They have the cash to do it and that shows the strength of the Sony business as a whole.

Canyongazer: Nikon is going to sell a boatload - or two - of this camera.

About the same as the R1?

lonewolf1983: Give up on the cameras and stick to what you do best, which is the glass.
Put those engineers into the RF/Z-mount and become the predominant 3rd party option for those mounts.

Being shown up by the far smaller Samyang/Viltrox companies in this regard....

I am aware of Japanese tradition, however in this case they already reverse engineer all their Canikon mount glass so its a moot point...

@strangefinder - do you think they gave it to Samyang? And canon/nikon have never released their protocols for their DSLR mounts, so its never going to happen.

Everything they have made for their mounts are reverse engineered already...

@xlucine
Dont know on their pages but they are available and I have the 85mm (and the 14mm in EF mount - adapted)

The 85mm works perfectly as a native lens

@xlucine - Do you realise that Samyang make fully electronic lenses that work as per native for RF mount?

@xlucine - the samyang 14mm and 85mm for RF are both fantastic...maybe you missed them.

@strangefinder - they're doing ok, but Sigma is missing an opportunity here. They were late to the party vs Tamron with E-mount so this would be a great way to get competitive.

On article Here's everything we know about the Canon EOS R3 (666 comments in total)
In reply to:

Rand Fotogott: It is interesting how many comments are by Sony users or former Sony users. I've seen very little from Nikon users, because they have little interest in a Canon camera.
I think Nikon has a good base dedicated to Nikon, and because newer F lenses work near perfectly on Z mount they can stick with them.
Same with Canon, a large dedicated base, and a lot of EF lens owners who see R mount as their future.
Then we see owners of other systems like Clyde Thomas who also give us great insight. His comment in the 'most popular' tab.

I'll put my hand up then, i just changed from Nikon to Canon (1dx and r6) and am eagerly awaiting the R3.

loved my old a-mount bodies back in the day (before i went to nikon)
Fond memories and lots of great images

Technology moves forward so this was always coming despite what the A-mount die-hard said

lonewolf1983: its pretty clear there is an issue with the A7iii shutter
I surf all the major brands facebook users groups and literally everyday there is someone that has a randomly failed shutter (at different ages, shutter counts)

Yes other makes shutters fail, but not at the rate that the A7iii's do and generally not randomly.
There are more a7iii's out there than a lot of other models, but the A6000 is always quoted as the "highest ever selling camera" and yet this issue isnt seen there.

I'd say that since this is starting to get some more publicity that more and more people will come out of the woodwork for a class action

@elisam - same could be said for the A7iii - many may have been done under warranty, or outside and people look at it and think its broken and so never bother to do anything about it

lonewolf1983: awesome to see the specs released....lol
WIll see i guess later in the year

As a multiple D series owner this is great, but i wont be able to afford one until in the 2nd hand market for a few years

@capi - yes Canon will have their R1 to compete with this, but when you can get 90% of the performance in the things that matter for 30% of the price...

@James Stirling - i use to have a Z6, didnt like the experience with BIF either

@James Stirling - the experience with the Z6 was passable but not for sports/action in my testing
I expect the Z6ii has improved a bit, but the low refresh rate viewfinder and the slideshow/blackout at higher FPS remains.

Expect that Nikon will fix both of those for the Z9 when its released, but its likely i'll be able to get 3x R6's for the same price that will get me 90% of the way there

LenRivers: Wonder if they knew about the Z9 why the D6 was developed.. Just assuming the Z9 will be a $5k or $6k type if they designate it "flagship" I know I said this years ago the DSLR is on borrowed time for mirrorless..

D6 would have been started devlopment way before this, but i expect they cut short some of the work and re-used the D5 sensor etc to pave the way for this

lonewolf1983: bought an R6 as a nikon user and the AF/shooting experience will want to be a lot better than the z6...
Right now considering switching systems so may be too late for nikon

@wjan - mostly around the functionality of the eye-AF, it certainly detects at a greater range and is far stickier to the eye (and the subject as a whole) - just seems to make a better decision.
this goes for normal wide focusing, the Z6 i found to go to the background for no reason when it shouldnt.

the r6's focus modes also has more options, and the dynamic AF points are smaller, i found on the Z6 there was just too large of a coverage.
Viewfinder experience is also better with 120hz and electronic shutter with no blackout also improves for me.
Waiting for the longer glass to arrive and football season to start to give it a full run through

Note the R6 was a big improvement over the RP as far as reviews say, i've never shot it myself.

@melindra - nah my genital size is adequate thanks so no need to compensate, some of us have large hands though.
good for you, the files sucked for my usage when using compressed raw
Sounds like you may be one of the infamous Sony fanboys...

I've shot Sony (DSLR, DSLT, Mirrorless), Nikon (dslr and mirrorless), Fuji so im about as platform agnostic as you'll find.
And yes in your dream world 2 and 3 would be great, maybe if you're just using kit lenses ;)

@melindra - sony ergonomics are crap, as is their limitations with raw files (apart from the new A1)

And yep system change is a big deal, thankfully Canon's 2nd hand market is largel y the same as Nikons for glass
