Is it ok to try just for amusement, though? Or should I not even do that? I don't really see what the problem would be with experimenting.

It worked pretty decently for me on a llama, but he was pretty cooperative anyway. The brown alpaca worked okayish. Goats too. But it really only seems fully effective on cats and dogs, as you say.

The Sigma 70mm f/2,8 DG Macro Art is very good - sharp, very flat field, no distortion, 1:1. I would be careful considering the sony/zeiss 55. It's very sharp, yes, but it would only be suitable ...

I was sad to discover animal eye AF doesn't work on emus, I'm curious if it does on ostriches or other huge birds.

Imaging Edge won't transfer RAW files, as far as I know. It definitely will not on my a7r III or IV, at least. It's frustrating even with jpegs or really for anything else, for that matter. It ...

That price is $1000 less than the initial price of the a7r iv, it's still a great camera. I've personally never felt I was held back by its resolution. By it's autofocus performance and mechanical ...

There hasn't been a firmware update for the A7R IV since Aug 2020, do you have one that's not been updated since before that? BTW if you are using 3rd party batteries, applying the Aug 2020 ...

I'm pretty sure that essentially every manufacturer putting out something that can charge small lithium ion batteries is using one of a pretty small set of integrated li-ion charge controller ...

They also have very high minimum repair charges for anything out of warranty, presumably at least in part to motivate you to buy the extended warranty. Even with Pro support membership they quoted ...

My take on it is that unless you're being very careful, it's both easier and more damaging to accidentally blow out a highlight than to slightly degrade shadows, and I'm usually willing to risk ...

I've seen that lens in good condition for as low as $550 on craigslist around here (san francisco) and they come up quite often, so a new lens might only be a bit more expensive than that repair.

I have both r3 and r4. TBH I mostly prefer the r3 for general use, but the r4 definitely does have much better autofocus, as it uses the newer style AF system as opposed to being similar to the ...

I was really surprised at how well the LA-EA5 works, even with ancient screw drive lenses. It's kind of odd to me that sony would put that much engineering into something that can't possibly be in ...
-
I've had it work seamlessly both on Mac and PC, so I don't think it matters. And of course I don't think there will be any more firmware updates for the a7riv itself, that camera seems abandoned.
-
It will run for a very long time if plugged into a USB charger, possibly indefinitely. The more you do with the camera the more power it uses, so if you were shooting video continuously I would ...

I've never really seen burst mode pictures all come out sharp at all.

I've always been confused by how these settings apply on a mirrorless camera. It seems like the camera should know absolutely whether focus is correct or not based on what's hitting the sensor, ...

Sony will replace all the optics, most likely, so it will be like buying a new copy of this lens for 989 €. If you want to replace it, it's probably a somewhat less expensive alternative to buying ...
-
That lens's used price has dropped to ~$500ish around here now, and even that seems high considering the amount of bad LoCA until you stop it down a lot.

In my experience Lightroom has all kinds of weirdness working with anything but locally attached fast disk. Most of my raw images are on a network storage server on the local high speed network ...
