With the compact everything is in focus but with the bigger sensors you get in trouble being close to your subjects. I think you need to learn on how AF works and how to bypass its protocols.

The diopter goes -4 on both but the magnification is different.

Totally agree with Kelly. Also diopter adjustment can be a PIA so if your eyes aren't 20/20 anymore it can be very handy.

Don't buy a body. Canon has some pretty good AF-S lenses for wider angle. Enjoy the 7DII it is a killer camera you got.

The A7 is pretty meh when it comes to video. Better alternatives to be found with Panasonic. The A7 AF goes till 0EV, also something to consider.

Got the 15-85 on 7D and is often regarded as better lens than the 24-105, dunno about the MKII though. As a walkaround for me hard to beat on Canon aps-c.
