zakk9: I have many times considered buying a Pentax camera only to be able to use those three lenses. The temptation is still there, and just now got stronger. I haven't counted it out yet.

There's a dedicated Website for the Limiteds:
http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/products/limited_lens/fa_limited/

And some news article about the HD version:

Hadogumu: According to the markings on the lens barrel, it should be a D FA21/4 limited.

Ricoh did revealt the complete name of the lens. Maybe accidentally.

On article Ricoh introduces HD Pentax-D FA* 85mm F1.4 lens (466 comments in total)
In reply to:

Kurgo: Just realised this lens weighs more than the Sigma Art 85mm. What a chunky piece of glass.

It's even lighter than the Zeiss Milvus 85/1.4

Any updates about the existence and availability of this filters?

ignphotography: It's a monster, it is too big, it is ridiculous!

It is a prime, how is it possible that they cannot make it smaller??

The Sigma 50mm Art is not better but even bigger. Why should Pentax make the new Performer lens even more smaller than the Sigma?

turvyT: The iq from this lens is just amazing. Yeah, Summilux lenses have CA, Noctilux have it, Canon 50 1.2 has it, Zeiss, so what's new. CA is easily removable with PS and many times is not even noticeable. A lens is measured by another factors and the output of this lens is just fantastic, classic stuff.

Sigma Art is wether weather sealed than as good as the D FA*.

phoenix15: " the Pentax HD FA* 50mm F1.4 is almost certainly an OEM product"
The OEM product that come before anything else ? Where is the sense with that kind of thinking. DPR you really make statement without good knowledge about it. Shame !

Silently removed from the article, same procedure as every time (645Z DxO, K-1 review...).

In reply to:

AlbertSiegel: This lens is not an OEM product like the 15-30 or 24-70, but rather an original PENTAX design which they licensed out to Tokina much like they did with their DA*16-50 and DA*50-135. PENTAX lenses under the star or limited designations are fully PENTAX designs.

Pentax did design the optical formula and the barrel, the pentax production line is in the same country like the label on the lens - so there is no proof for beeing an OEM lens like dpreview believes.

mxx: Am I imagining it, but a somewhat negative hands on? Much emphasis on the lens's shortcomings, and not much praise for it's positive qualities. I've seen wonderful pictures taken with this lens, and would love to own it.

"Maybe it is just possible that the lens sucks.
After all its a 50mm lens, not really state of the art type thing.
It falls short of a sigma art that performs better, costs less and mounts on far better cameras"
You don't have any clue of the lenses and present your opinion as facts.
The Pentax is even better than the Sigma Art and there is no other DSLR for the price of an K-1 which offers better image quality.

Richard Murdey: Otus for 1/4 the price and AF.

Nice!

Otus costs 3x, has no AF and no weather resistance.

angerdan: a7 III is ony the camera dpreview believes/states is the best.
With objective criteras it isn't, because the (now 3 year old) Pentax K-1 still equals the a7 III in image quality (nearly the same), ergonomy (handgrip), price (>$400 cheaper) and compatibility (DNG vs proprietary RAW).

@Rocky Mtn Old Boy
AFAIK PS CS5 isn't free. What's your source? Adobe even did change their minde about giving CS2 Suite for free afterwards.

@The Squire
What's your background to judge about others? How about your history shooting with Pentax?

Any objective comments here or users who'd use the K-1 (II) already?

In reply to:

Peter62: Enabling the "Compare Mode" you can see that the older version is way better than the K1 II.

What a shame, Pentax!

The conclusions are made by dpreview, only objective opinions people can tell about is they prefer the more noisy K-1 images or the less noisy but a bit less sharp K-1 II images.
Why didn't dpreview use the same lens like in the test of the K-1 ?
Pentax offers great primes, especially the D FA 100mm Makro WR. It's not at all a problem connected to Pentax.

Take a look at another K-1 review:

Can Photoshop CS5 import Sony RAW?
I don't capture video with the K-1, don't even need an 4k TV.
Burst frame is fast enough. I use the camera as a tool, not as gadget to distract from skills.
