photography-lover: These 2 lenses seem 99% identical to their DSLR counterparts right?

The optical formula and AF technology seems to be exactly the same.

Those are great lenses, no doubt, but wasn't there a possibility to improve them further?

They could have put the Nano USM AF Motors from the RF 100-500mm rather than the older standard USM Motor, Mirrorless cameras with features like Continuous Eye AF really benefit from the latest and greatest AF motors

I think they've just done what Sigma did with some of their earlier full frame mirrorless lenses and effectively built-in a mount converter at the end of the existing design. In time they will replace them with proper optimised lenses specifically designed for the mount (which Sigma is now doing)

gphome: Unfortunately in our society, the punishments for this sort of stuff, as well as journalism sensationalism or click bait, are pitiful relative to the annoyance, time wasted, and mistrust it puts into our society.

What should happen if a company is proven to put out misleading advertisements (where it clearly would have known better)? A one year complete marketing ban as well as a hefty fine donated to internal charities that combat internet based addictions and anxieties.

But these companies are too powerful, and our society and the government structures we created are too weak, to change what is an increasing poison in our society. You only have to look at the Volkswagen emissions scandal, or the Boeing 747 Max air disasters for proof of that. Those companies will get off Scott free if looked at over a 5 year financial window, and in Boeing's case, they've literally commited manslaughter.

@JakeB, those examples are extremes of what is at play here with Apple, companies pushing forward with their own agendas with the truth a secondary consideration, knowing they pretty much have impunity

Lens choice is E Mount really is going from strength to strength, unrivalled for choice AND quality. Sure some DSLR systems have a lot of glass, but 90% is old designs with slow AF motors

For the image conscious out there, it also has a dedicated button to change the brand name on the camera to something other than Nikon if a social event is thrust upon you

SomeGuyWithACamera: BELOW IS A QUESTION THAT CAN EASILY BE CONFUSED WITH TROLLING PLEASE DO NOT MISTAKE THE TWO:

I am a little confused about who this is for? The high price and lack of flash says it's a pro-grade camera, but I don't know any pros that shoot with Pentax anymore, it's got some great pro features too like IBIS and dual media, but again it's a $2000 Pentax. The only place I see for it is like journalists whose paper has invested heavily in Pentax glass over the years.

Again not trying to troll, if this camera was like $900 I would say its Pentax REstablishing them selfs in the competition, giving pro features to enthusiasts. Or even as a MFT sensor, there are diehard MFT fans out there who WOULD buy this. But as an APS? I don't see it...

Also,
A touch screen with a joystick? YES!

I agree, and it does make you wonder if the size of the Pentax user base is under-estimated, as Pentax has built a business case for releasing this camera and they must know it doesn't stack up well against the competition for buyers considering a new system?

JasonTheBirder: Before anyone gets negative on this camera, let's realize two things. First, any camera that is released that isn't a cellphone is actually great for most of the people on this forum who don't want to compromise in image quality and need more than an auto mode with a sorry selection of focal lengths. Secondly, this will actually be pretty nice camera for people who prefer DSLRs. So maybe for once we can forget about brand bashing and armchair marketing. Please?

This is a forum for photography gear, there is always going to be heavy criticism of new releases. You'll get the same for a Mobile Phone forum, or a car forum. There will be forums more suited to people who are looking for a positive orientated vibe, one's that are Pentax only example for fans of the system.

FujifilmXT3: So yesterday 👎

It's good for existing Pentax customers but I can't realistically see ANYONE, Pentax user or not, honestly recommending this mount and system for friends and family new to photography? There in lies the problem for Pentax, it has dying mount written all over it.

BrexitDefCom3: Scary, isn't it, that you pay thousands of pounds for a camera body without even so much as a standard lens, and then have to put up with its other failures whilst waiting for Firmware updates that should have all been installed already before it was ever put on sale?

Inappropriate Antisocial behaviour? Too right!

At least with the Canon's you get a free heater for your hands on a cold Spring morning...

On article Field review: Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN (122 comments in total)

We are spoilt on F2.8 standard zooms on E Mount, we have 4(!) great choices now available:

Sigma 28-70 F2.8
Sigma 24-70 F2.8
Tamron 28-75 F2.8
Sony GM 24-70 F2.8

It isn't just the quantity of the glass, its the quality, The decision by Sony to open the mount specifications free of charge to 3rd parties to promote third party lens development for E Mount was an AMAZING decision for us consumers, I hope Canon, Nikon and Fuji follow suit for the benefit of the those who use their system so we all get great choice in fully AF glass.

bluevellet: No 24mm, no sale.

You could pair this with the Samyang AF 18mm F2.8, and still be under the total weight of a 24-70 F2.8, and you'll get way more flexibility

Mr Bolton: Nice lens. I wish something this light and fast were available for Fuji..

Meanwhile, the Panasonic L mount version corrects distortion.. almost as if there, the availability of complete lens and body protocol specifications plays a significant role.

Those Fuji examples are equivalent of F6 at the long end, not really the same. I think F1.8 zooms for APS-C would be a great idea to get the flexibility that F2.8 zooms give on Full Frame, however I don't think Fuji will be able to keep the size down. Their fast glass seems to be BIG

Idaho_X: In my opinion they need to start caring about APS-C (lenses). Otherwise Nikon will lose many beginner photographers who later become full frame customers ("brand loyalty"). The D3xxx and D5xxx series were Nikon's best selling cameras.
In addition to that many landscape photographers are still waiting for a 70-200 F4 and there isn't any on the roadmap.
For lower budgets (Z5/Z6 customers) a lightweight 70-300 F4.5-5.6 or so would also be important.
Let's hope that Tamron and Sigma release some AF Z mount lenses and save their ass.

I think Fuji is for people who want to shoot with a Leica but can't afford one. If you want a general photographic system for shooting family, events, sports, landscape, wildlife etc. then other systems make more sense
