Keep what you have and add a truly pocketable high IQ camera to your arsenal; i.e. a one of the Ricoh GR III's.

4MM at the wide end is 20%, i.e. considerably wider. And at the long end switch to aps-c mode and 105 is covered, sufficiently well with the 62MP sensor.

Excellent. This one plus one fast prime (50-75MM) plus the 62MP sensor's cropping power is all I will use for travelling in future.

For those with anxiety of leaving the "perfect" focal length at home there is only one solution: Sony RX10 IV:-D

Excellent lens, good aps-c sensor, good UI. Shirt pocket size. Yes, its worth it.
-
Good idea, or alternatively a 62PM Sony a7riv with plenty of cropping power coupled with a f2.8 28-75 zoom (Tamron)

The answer very much depends on the age of the kids and shooting envelope you intend to cover. For little kids you need high shutter speed and thus want a fast lens to avoid high iso with the mft ...

A rugged, environmentally sealed (IP53) version by retaining current form factor and size would be something. Resolution and all the rest are perfectly fine. Maybe a tad faster lens, f2.4, would ...

Re f1.4 lenses. Mate the a7C with some small, lightweight Samyang f1.8 primes (35, 45, 75mm) and it will be perfectly balanced
-
Just send it to me. I'll put it to good use.

No, I was referring to FF. An a7 body is comparatively small and an a7c even smaller than Fuji bodies and equivalent e-mount FFF lenses, except the "GM" ones, are often smaller, lighter and ...
-
A Sony FF system is as small or even smaller than Fuji if equivalence is take into consideration. There are plenty of lightweight and compact e-mount lenses available; both AF and MF only.

Lacks bite, micro contrast, still produces a waxy skin look.

A tiny, yet rugged, "can do many things well and some excellently" body with plenty of lenses to choose from is it's USP. And for this reason I am tempted to give mft another try. With two f4 pro...

I prefer an Apple watch on my wrist and a decent camera in my hand over this clumsy fusion of a smartphone with a high end optic.

With growing inflation putting some money into a timeless Leica film boy and M-lenses might not be the worst decision.....
