BobT3218: 693 AF points against 117 sounds like a good thing but I'm not quite sure why. Is it for AF tracking? Maybe it's my shooting style but I don't know what I'd do with so many points.
You can still use the joystick to chose where to focus (or touchscreen), the difference is that now you can do this up to the edge of the frame and it'll focus and track with no problem.
But the auto af is actually quite good at deciding what you want to focus. Kind of magic to be honest. I've tracked flying birds and in a point and shoot situation it was able to focus with no problem. It's fast and smart.
