Well that's good! That'll give me time to save up :-)

Helmut Eder: You missed the Casio EX100. Very similar to Stylus 1s, but smaller because it doesn't have a viewfinder. Excellent IQ and good bright zoom lens.

Well, living in Australia, I purchased my EX100 via Ebay from Hong Kong - I know I know it's not the "official" way to go, but I've had the cam for nearly a year now with no probs. It is a fantastic camera, and easily fits in my little rucksack that I carry around with me...2 of my friends also bought the same camera from the same supplier and have had no issues - they also love the cam!

Robert Schroeder: Why not the Lumix DMC-LF1 (or Leica C Type 112, for that matter)? Its sensor is 1:1.7", not quite 1", but the rest of it seems to fit the demands better than the Sony with its 1/2.33" sensor...

Interestingly, those demands are very close to what I'm looking for to replace my Olympus C-70Z aka C-7000Z which was introduced in 2004. Until now, I haven't really found a camera except the DMC-LF1. The only thing that's missing, and which is, unfortunately, missing from the upcoming ZS100/TZ100, too, is a flippable screen. Today, I think I wouldn't want to do without one anymore.

Check the Casio EX100 - am very happy with it.

joe6pack: Why does the lens says ULTRASONIC?

Let's hope this sorts out Canon's slow and sometimes inaccurate focus issues of late...

Wye Photography: Cynical me says this is a ploy to keep Canon users hanging on and looking elsewhere.

Well - I don't agree either. If the competition had a camera similar to this (Compact, large sensor, decent zoom) - you think this promise would make people not look at the competition??

Helmut Eder: Well - for me the smaller size is more important than a viewfinder - I'm glad they went this way.

Well sorry - I have to disagree. Had a DSLR, so I know what it's like to have a viewfinder. Been using my Pana TZ40 lately mostly (which is why this new Canon looks like a great upgrade). The TZ40 doesn't have a viewfinder. Never missed it. Everyone's different. Personally I think having an optional one will satisfy more people.

mpgxsvcd: I actually love this camera concept. 25x is the max zoom I think you should strive for. Too bad they are just teasing us with it. This might have actually got me to go back to Canon if it wasn't Vaporware.

Vaporware isn't usually demo'd at an expo though...
