For me, "freezing" only happens when the battery completely runs out (usually the camera can show a warning and gracefully turn itself off, if it still has power to do that). So check your battery.

In simpler terms, if your R7 w/ 100-400 gets the same bird with more detail than your P950, use the R7 and forget the P950; otherwise, sell the R7 and lenses for a new P950. :-D

Have you compared your P950 and R7 w/ 100-400 at shooting the same bird at the same distance at max zoom? Is the IQ similar when viewed at 100% zoom? Some people say the RX10 IV at 600mm has ...

May as well consider getting a quote from a local third-party repairer.

Sorry to hear the Nikon quote. I think your decision to use your R7 first is smart. The R7 with 100-400 gives a max focal length of 400*1.6*sqrt(33/16)=919mm when cropped to the 16MP resolution ...

I use a 400-yuan (about 55 USD), 1kg carbon-fiber tripod that has a max height of 1.6m. I use such a lightweight tripod mainly for easy transport in a hand bag. More recently I realized that a ...

I still vote for the P950, a new P950 if Nikon can't fix the old one cheap. It's so versatile.

Hmm, an R7 with 800mm reaches sqrt(33/16)*800*1.6=1838mm when cropped to 16MP, really a challenger to the P950. p.s. But the RF 200-800 weighs 2.05kg, and the RF 800 F11, 1.26kg.

Or think of the RX100 VII as an expensive handgun that doesn't shoot far... In contrast, I once likened the P1000 to a Tomahawk missile that reaches thousands of miles away.

Hmm, the P1000 definitely gives you the most bang (zoom) for the buck! :-D

I don't use my P1000 as often as I sometimes used to now, but once in a while when I see a new species such as the common kestrel, getting it with the P1000 is great fun. To me, buying a new P1000 ...
