Photodog2's current gear

Nikon D600
Nikon Z fc
Nikon Z6
Nikon knows photography and it shows. The only reason this is 4 stars is it has become relatively big and heavy with the advent of mirrorless. Weight and size are the only reasons I don't use it anymore.
Still relatively new for me. Not sure whether it's 4.5 or 5 stars. It looks gorgeous and the IQ is great. I'm getting used to the plastic sounding shutter sound and the leather half-case has made it more comfortable to hold one-handed.
Just about a perfect camera for me. XQD cards are more expensive than SD cards is my only complaint. Nikon hit it out of the park in its very first version of an FF mirrorless.
Nikon Z7
Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II
Olympus OM-D E-M10 IV
The Z6 but with a 46mp sensor that allows me to shoot crop lenses and get the 1.5x multiplier for telephoto reach. Excellent price versus comparable competitors.
UI, controls, menu are needlessly complicated to do the most basic things otherwise I like everything about this camera.
Most fun to shoot. The only one I use for SOOC JPEGs. It is 100% raw for all the others. Looks beautiful with a retro silver/black SLR style.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX85 (Lumix DMC-GX80 / Lumix DMC-GX7 Mark II)
Pentax K10D
Pentax K-5 IIs
Needs the best lenses to have adequate Image Quality. Otherwise, I would avoid 16mp M43.
CCD sensor produces files similar to slide film. Will never part with this classic.
Just about perfect for its era but the write times to the SD card are painfully slow for any era.
Pentax K-70
Pentax KP
Sony a6000
The camera I am most likely to bring anywhere and to shoot in any condition. Value for money is very high.
Reminds me of 1970s and 80s SLRS in many ways including the bad grip. High image quality and build quality.
Very fun. Feather light.
Sony a7 II
All my star ratings are based on how much fun it is to shoot any of the bodies. They all have good IQ and can produce great images depending on the photographer. I am also aware of how they all measure in terms of performance. The reason I have multiple cameras is I think they are fun devices for artistic expression and the ones with lesser stars are less enjoyable for me to use.
Other gear:
  • DXO PL, ON1, Affinity, Pixelmator, Rawtherapee, Topaz AI, MacPhotos for PP SW; M1 Macs as HW platform: I think they are just as important if not more so for the final product than cameras/lenses

Pentax K-3 Mark III

The fixed LCD screen still bugs me. Might get one when used versions get to a lower price or I'll just wait for a K-70 mark 2 with a fully articulated back LCD. Pentax makes very usable cameras and I hope they stay in business.
