stevo23: This website can't be blamed for the devaluation of photography. The forces that have caused that were in place long before. If anything, this might put some work out there that gets photographers noticed for what they do.

The other component that people need to consider in this
'free' equation is, all levels of photography buyers are being squeezed. Ad agencies, graphic designers and media outlets have all seen their profit margins reduced over the years. Clients want more for their money, more targeted advertising and a better ROI. The emergence of stock was the beginning of this scenario. It's just more challenging to be a 'paid' photographer these days and actually turn a profit is nearly impossible.

The cost of equipment and its productive lifespan has been greatly impacted since the advent of digital so costs have gone up and profit has gone down, it is just the reality of photography these days. Unsplash has just hammered another nail in the professional photography casket.

I have been in the industry for quite some time and the first salvo on pro photographers was the emergence of stock photography. Why commission a photo shoot when you can troll through batches online and find one for cheaper?

Now with free images, the client will just do the same as they did with stock photos, history has proven that. The potential that one will get a "paid" shoot because they gave their work away is ridiculous, clients will simply search a bit more for a free photo that fits their needs.
