Thanks for your very full replies. A lot of food for thought. I will primarily be using a tripod so the absence of OIS isn't really significant.

How to people see the 18-55 Vs the 16-55 in terms of color rendition/contrast? Also the lack of OIS in the 16-55, is that an issue? I assume the 16-55 is better in both contrast and sharpness but ...

Also look on Thingiverse. There are some gems. Generally speaking I'd go on Thingiverse and check out what's available if OEM isn't brilliant.

Yes. I think it goes on my list for definite. Thanks for taking the time to post your images.

I'm seriously thinking of getting the 12-40. It has an astonishing review on Ephotozine. Back in 2014 there was a thread comparing it with the Lumix 14-45 kit lens which I already have. Thinking ...

David Thorpe is why I got into MFT way back when. I got out. Got back in. Got out and back in again. His delivery is great and he clearly goes for quality over quantity. Perhaps is says something ...

Who do you guys go to for gear reviews on YouTube for MFT gear I'm looking for a Christopher Frost equivalent. Where do you peeps go for reliable dependable information?

Thanks. Very useful information. I've been thinking about this for some time. I'll be trying to get some useful landscape shots so contrast and color rendition are very important. Thanks for ...

The 17-50 definitely has won, especially as it is compatible with the wide variety of the now cheap selection of able DX cameras. It definitely makes a compelling selection with the D300 as a ...

That's true but I'd not decided. I'm trawling through used camera listings in my favourite used store and just found a good D300 without swollen grips and bulging door but I'm still not decided. ...

Thanks. I checked back and found 64 posts. I cant quite believe that! Thanks so much for your suggestion. I just found a D300 in excellent condition but I'm not totally sure of the concept of the ...

Thanks. Very useful. I just read an extensive review of the 18-55s. https://photographylife.com/reviews/nikon-18-55mm-dx-vr-af-p He says the later 18-55s are markedly better but only work on the ...

That's possibly true, but I just looked at a review by the very excellent Christopher Frost who looked at the latest 18-55. I won't say "diabolical" but not for me. The 18-70 does do better with ...

It's clearly a tall order but there are sometimes lenses that do buck the trend and that are accepted among enthusiasts but not necessarily highly regarded in formal reviews. I was hoping that ...

I'm looking for a standard zoom for DX which has as good as possible edge sharpness for a reasonable budget price used. Trying to minimise my costs to under $300. But minimising the budget as far ...

Thanks for all your excellent and very full replies. I expected that the conclusion would be along the lines of "it depends on what you want to use it for" but actually IMHO it does appear, that ...

Folks, I want to ask if that's possible, what is the best range a wide zoom is desirable to have for landscape photos? Not specifically which lens but, which range if using a Nikon FX camera would ...
