I wouldn't bother based on my experience with the Canon 100-400 mkII and the 1.4 v3. The results are better with cropping. Focus is faster and more accurate and tracking works well.

Hi, I believe they use the same optics, just better focus. The 50 1.8 is way better and more reliable than the 50,1.4 for focus.
