Paulo Macedo: 5000$...for what? 8 core outdated Xeon CPU, a Vega 56 and 32GB of 2666MHz DDR4?
If you cramp it up, 20 thousand LOL
Look at me, 1000$, Ryzen 7 1700X that outperforms that Xeon and a 1070Ti that puts that Vega 56 to shame, not to mention that each component has its own warranty and is swapable.

@miksto That is the exact point of the whole thing. Even the AMD Ryzen 7 1700 CPU can stand a fight with that Xeon processor. I'm currently working with a Ryzen 7 1700X and 16GB of DDR4 @ 3066Mhz, it eats through those video files and photos without an issue, the whole kit costed me 700€ (inc MoBo), 150€ more and i'll be having 32GB of DDR4, making it an 850€ powerful PC capable of put a fight or even win that 5000USD iMac.
Now let's imagine i throw it a Vega 56, that will be more 600€, 1450€ + 1100€ for the LG Panel. 2550€ for a PC that will destroy the 6000€ iMac.

Badi, you got that right. I would pay the rest of my car, buy me a GFX50 or a 645Z and go to God knows where to photograph.

You know what else is priced at 19.000 USD? A freaking new diesel car that can do 1000Km per fuel tank and take me places to photograph.

Just configured the iMac on the apple store.
The base iMac Pro, with the W 8 Xeon and 32GB DDR4 ECC 2666Mhz.
(sorry for the portuguese words)

Processador Intel Xeon W 8-core a 3,2 GHz, Turbo Boost até 4,2 GHz
32 GB de memória DDR4 ECC a 2666 MHz
SSD de 1 TB
Radeon Pro Vega 56 com 8 GB de memória HBM2
Magic Mouse 2 - Silver sideral
Magic Keyboard with numéric keypad - Português - Cinzento sideral

Almost 6000 thousand freaking Euro. (7000USD)
The top configuration rised to almost 16 thousand Euro. (19000USD)

The memory is actually ECC for the 32GB config.

Six thousand euro could land me a Threadripper 1950X with 64GB DDR4 3000 (I don't believe photographers and videographers will need precise memory..but whatever). 1TB SSD and a rack of 8TB HDD's in RAID config. GTX 1080Ti. Two photograpy screens from Eizo and i would have spare change for a coffee.

I would be getting performance on par with the mid to high configuration with just six thousand euro. This is insane..

And last but not least, if the 1000$ part breaks (screen), how will you feel to ditch 4000$ worth of hardware to buy a new one?
Because on the PC side, i can just buy another screen and keep going without having to give up on the rest of the components.

Yes, but will the base model be ECC? Because I trully doubt it. It seems like the kind of thing Apple will make you pay for. The base model, the 5000$ one can't keep up against a 2000$ Threadripper build and those 32GB will be LPDDR4 at best.
The thing is that people are talking about the 5000$ model like it was the High End iMac Pro, and that High End iMac will cost you some 20.000$, leaving the argument even more valid for the PC side.
Also, the cooling, this is something everybody tends to forego. 145W TDP cramped inside that tiny body with small air intake at the bottom. The CPU will throttle down to cool, like what we see on the MacBook, making you lose a lot of performance. A "fatter" iMac with watercooling would convince me otherwise, but not this form factor relying on air, specially in mid august summer.

32GB of LPDDR4 (laptop RAM) vs whatever the most powerful RAM you can lay your hands on, so, Ryzen 7 CPU's can go up to 3200MHz. Let's call this a draw on prices, 450$ total for the RAM.
M.2 SSD's for PC's depending on size, but let's say, 200$ for a 512GB System drive and then 150$ for a 4TB HDD (Storage).
Case + coolers more 200$.
This will cost a bit more than 1000$, sure, but never the 5000$ asked, and the screen..c'mon 1000$ and you buy it straight from LG and a screen calibrator (that you'll end up having to use on the iMac, because all screens go bust after some time).
So, with 2000$ you can get a machine with a lot more performance.
With those 5000$, you could have an AMD TR4 Threadripper 16 core 32 Thread, 128GB RAM, GTX 1080, Watercooling and still lay hands on that LG screen.
Time to build this? One hour tops.

Really? A 1000$ PC won't do better?
Ok, let's get to the numbers.
The 5000$ iMac Pro, comes with the W-2145 Xeon (1100$) processor, 8 core, 16 Thread. This processor might be 5% faster than the latest version, leaving it still behind the AMD Ryzen 7 1700X (329$).
MoBo good enough some 150$.
This processor, the Xeon, has a 145W TDP, that has to be cooled down inside that thin body, hell, even PC's users are having trouble to cool down their I7-7700K's on those huge cages.
The AMD Vega GPU 56 (500$) still lags behind the 1070, even more the 1070TI (450$). (cont..)

Mssimo: So does lighting go from the ground up to the clouds? We need more FPS

Actually, a lightining comes from the sky, like a probe searching for a contact point in the ground, when it connects a huge power surge goes from ground to the coulds. You can see that on the video, the lightning usually goes brighter.

Noisy in the darker areas, just wonder how this 24mpx sensor behaves in low light conditions, also, will it be even useful while using ISO > 200 or 400?
