crsantin: Perhaps something good will come of this Covid mess. We've become far too reliant on Chinese manufacturing and supply.
Yes, I wonder where all of our medical PEP clothing comes from.
I bet its still all made in China
Djehuty: Thailand’s been manufacturing cameras and lenses for Nikon, Sony, Canon etc before this trade war though.
I wonder where all the actual glass elements are made?
Are they still made in Japan and China just makes the tube and motors and assembles them?
Good news, more and more Z mount lenses are coming out.
Sadly its a bit beyond my price range
Yes Chris that is a great idea.
And you you say, it would be very easy to implement in the camera setting.
People stopped buying "compact cameras" in favour of smartphones as the compact cameras did not (and will never) fit in their pockets.
Now that smartphone photo and video technology is now nearly as good as a real camera, I don't see small cameras coming back into vogue.
Much as I am a Nikon user, I must admit that that Sony A7R V looks like a top contender. It seems to have lots of good features
I wish Panasonic well
The new camera seems to have got some good reviews
Talk of a camera system is a bit out od date now
A camera system, was a camera, some lenses and some flashguns
Now its just a camera and some lenes.
GarysInSoCal: For a portrait lens... this lens is too short in focal length, regardless of it's F1.2 speed. This era's 'social distancing' has created a demand for longer telephoto usage... to provide a 'comfort zone' that's pretty much a requirement this day and age. That's why I opted for the 105 F1.4, the 135 F2 and the 180 F2.8. I have an 85 F1.8, and I use it sporadically... but my stronger telephotos are seeing more action.
I lot depends on the size of your studio, and if you want to do full length portraits.
jooyoonchung: Can anyone help me understand what the purpose of a new FF 26 2.8 is given that there is already a pancake FF 28 2.8?
I'm not sure if I'm an entry level photographer, or an advanced amateur.
Or just a geriatric photographer.
As a Nikon fan boy, there was only 1 option for me the Z30.
And I really think its not worth voting for as the only new feature is the tally light.
Maybe Nikon fans will have 3 or 4 choices next year!
Great fun, good to see your predictions and the actuals.
Looking forward to your 2023 predictions.
Digmen1: My data shows that Nikon has outsold the A1 and the R3 and Canon in full frame mirrorless cameras and lenses (by a lot).
But I do think that Canon are catching up
As there are no sales figures released by the manufacturers. I get my data from this very website.
I count the Got and Want its by DP review members.
(its not scientific but its the best we have) 6 months ago I also looked at the numbers of reviews on Amazon and B&H and they confirmed my data.
And in that the Nikon Z9 is ahead of the A1 in totall haves, and way ahead of the R3.
If you count up Nikon Z full frame v Canon Rf full frame, once again Nikon is ahead, and way ahead in lenses.
Of course Sony is ahead of both of them
The only other data that is released is from one or two Japanese retail shops, which vary wildly, and are only for their customers. DP Review is probably read by photographers in the USA and Europe and many other english readers.
BackToNature1: Nikon's Q2 financials, I wonder how many DSLRs are still being sold by Nikon. Along with those type lens. I didn't notice any breakdown showing the difference between Mirrorless and DSLRs.
That report is over a year old!
Nikon are outselling Canon in full frame mirrorless
h815L: cool! more profits. maybe they have money now to make and sell the z6iii
cause theyre still in 3rd place. how about you deliver things the majority would need and buy?
z6iii 24mp 4k 60p no crop, 422 10 bit in camera, no time limit, dual slot video recording, nlog prores in camera, proper 3d video af from z9. something amazing, not that half azzed overyped garbage of the mark ii. do it for real. bring a proper a7iv competitor and stop effing around. and stop making stupid mistakes which cost you 2nd place like d750 and d600 recall. 1 slot and no battery group.
Yes the Z6ii and Z6iii is the biggest market segment for Nikon. That's why its more important than a Z8 or a Zf. We all know its going to come. Maybe they are tweaking it. It takes about 2 years to develop a new camera. They will start development of the Z6iv as soon as the first reviews of the Z6iii come in.
I need to start saving. Hint a Z90 would also be a big seller.
photography-lover: Great news! It was to be expected and comes at a time where ability to meet demand on many high margin items was severely limited. The results would otherwise have been even much better.
Btw, the Z9 is now in stock in Tokyo and there are even 2 like new Z9 available second hand at map camera as we speak.
I noticed that they currently have 23 Sony a1 available second hand (also in stock).
According to my Stats the Z9 has well outsold the A1 and the R3.
tvstaff: The Z9 is selling like hot cakes and a ton of Nikon glass to follow. The numbers will continue to increase Nikon's Z9 next generation will become a 102MP R1 killer.
Nikon will take over where Canon failed with the R1. All Nikon needs to do is build out a service organization to rival CPS snd fill in the glass gaps.
Wait till Canon drops off their M/Rebel series or what ever they are called. That will see a big drop in their sales.
Unless the R7 and R10 replace them, but at higher price points I don't think they will.
Big box camera buyers have a budget.
ahinesdesign: Several are commenting that despite good news “Nikon is still in third place” which appears to be just a more subtle way of proclaiming ‘Nikon is doomed!’
If you’re not first, you’re last … or something like that.
Yes but if you become too small your R&D budget gets smaller too, so that you become even smaller.
BackToNature1: The main Ytubers that I usually ever watch concerning Nikon recently are the Grays of Westminster, Long-established Nikon-only shop selling new and secondhand cameras, plus cases and accessories. The other would be Matt Irwin.
The Grays certainly had interesting remarks in their last Video concerning where they think the sales of the stellar success, the Z9 currently stands and their thought process of where Nikon is and or should be moving towards next in the rest of their lineup.
Sadly Nikon Rumours is now just Nikon Crickets.
They announce a rumour the day before the camera or lens is announced.
Meanwhile over on Canon Rumours and Ordinary Filmmaker Canon has about ten new cameras coming in the next 3 months!
Nikon should have 6 or 7.
thomas2279f: Throw in a counter-claim against Red in any infringement that Red may have copied Nikon's tech = Job sorted, fingers cross *many of my friends said RED baseless claim* for Nikon to win big and sue for loss of sales & likely reputation damage.
Good Items will come from Nikon shortly Z8, Z70/Z90, Z6 (May be Z7 ? ), further down field ZFC MK 2, ZF, Z50 MK2 and more excellent Nikon and Nikontameron lens.
Good news if the rumor is true that Sigma plans to bring out some good lenses for the Z
The Z's have good lenses to hand, Nikon, Tamron, Viltrox and other 3rd parties, along with the various adaptors to use Nikon F's, Canon's EF's, Sony E/FE lenses.
Looking like an excellent system - have to say the other big 2 Sony and Canon produce some stonking / great stuff as well
N.B I'm not a Nikon fanman
Good Items will come from Nikon shortly Z8, Z70/Z90, Z6 (May be Z7 ? ), further down field ZFC MK 2, ZF, Z50 MK2 and more excellent Nikon and Nikontameron lens.
On what do you base that on. Its everyone's wish list. But we have no firm rumours. Even the Z8 is just a wild rumour 4 months away,
