panther fan: Well SAR had a terrible terrible track record over the past three years when it comes to bodies. But regarding lenses, many turn out to be correct. At least in the long run.

Seems like Sony is solidifying their lead in UWA lenses this year. With another prime and a 12-24mm F2.8 rumored, as well as additional tele primes

It will be interesting to see what Tamron does. I guess we can expect a 100-400 F4.5-6.3 at some point, as this lens has proven tremendously successful for them. Let's hope we also see some interesting primes that are a step above the honestly lacking F2.8 primes they released.

For Sigma a 70-200 F2.8 in E-mount seems pretty safe. They will probably also expand their F1.2 line. My personal hope would be a 50mm F1.2

I put SAR at 50% correct. They've predicted an A7000 4 or 5 times now, but have finally given up. The A7SIII was due last year a few times according to SAR.

In reply to:

Aleks7: problem is that if you're not using Edius, there is currently no workflow for ProRes RAW on PC.
Even though Adobe promised they'll support it in PremierePro, there is no update nor responses from Adobe Support on this topic.
So yes, you can spend all the money for Nikon filmmaker's kit, upgrade everything, but unless you're on Mac or throw away your PremierePro and buy Edius (depending on where you live, it can be more than 500EUR), you can't do anything with it.

Today though H.265 is almost a must have if you are using internal cards.
Also, the benefit of RAW is there is little decoding and it actually can make editing faster.

MILC man: watched this on an LG 65" OLED C9PUA, I can see the p.q. potential with the nikon raw format, despite it being crippled by excessive noise, line skipping, youtube re-compression, etc.

these complaints about the p.q. fail to realize that the lighting is harsh and the direction was wrong because it's a test, not how they would shoot it in the real world.

the traditional approach for video is with a soft key light, and the camera on the shadow side of the face: https://www.dvinfo.net/forum/photon-management/533466-lighting-interviews-talking-heads.html

take a look at any 60 minutes talking heads studio setup, for instance: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/oscars-2020-why-do-awards-make-joaquin-phoenix-uncomfortable-60-minutes-2020-02-07/

beyond all that, you don't need raw when the lighting is right, as proven by decades of broadcast video production and presentation, that never used raw.

" you don't need raw when the lighting is right,"

Most will agree, 10 bit 4:2:2 with a high bit rate (like 400MBps) will usually do.
What you don't want is 8 bit 4:2:0 with a super low bit rate of 100Mbps or less (especially with an older codec). Colors break up while editing and you end up with bad artifacts when there is movement.
This is why most agree the S1H, GH5, GH5S, and X-T3 are the best cameras for video, followed closely by the Nikon.

On article Which is best for you: the Fujifilm X-T200 or X-T30? (135 comments in total)

Fujifilm makes a nice variety of bodies that really compliment each other. I can see some owning multiple bodies for different situations.
Having all this choice is great. Some other systems have just one body type, and one system has one body type with frequently criticized ergonomics.
Kudos to Fujifilm for offering such a wide variety and choice,

I am looking at comparable lens and finding the M43 lenses cost a lot less.
(keep in mind DxO says the EM1.2/EM5.3 sensor is virtually equal for noise as the latest Sony sensor, a little behind for DR, and have superior IBIS, so very comparable).
Standard F/2.8 zoom: Sony $1297. Panasonic $797. Olympus $849
Telephoto F/2.8 zoom: Sony $2600. Panasonic $897 Olympus $1349

Sadly, most Sony cameras lack IBIS and I can only find a couple Sony primes with IS. Of course 5 axis IBIS is better than than ILIS when the lens is under 100mm, so even those Sony lenses are not going to perform as well at slower shutter speeds.
But overall the real issue is how out dated Sony APSC cameras are. Bad rolling shutter, bad colors, and bad ergonomics. Even their latest cameras is USB 2.0 and no UHS-I/II.

"Sony Full Frame E-mount is the best mount in terms of lens support there currently is. It is better than M43"
This is obviously false.
Everyone who makes lenses for E mount also makes lenses for M43. there are hundreds of lenses that work on M43 that will not on E mount FF.
Many of the lenses people point to on E mount are really the same lens with a different color or different package that they count as multiple lenses.

As we agreed there is not a single sharp wide aperture pancake lens for E mount, among many other holes.

Also, I hope you are not one of those zealots who claims E mount is "open" even though Sony specifically says it is not and refuses to release their "Full" spec to anyone. (they do make available their "basic" spec after various undisclosed qualifications are met)

Very few APSC owners want a 35mm F/2.8 prime, especially on the dozen or so Sony cameras without IBIS.
I agree 100% too. I'd take an F/2 Rokkor over an F2.8 35mm Sony. At that focal length you usually have time to manually focus, and that extra stop comes in handy.

In reply to:

phouphou: very good times for anyone using the e-mount system.

The "sharp pancakes like the Sony 35mm F2.8" is not a pancake lens.
It is a great example of why APSC with Sony is such a mess too. It has a small aperture and no IS. That's less of an issue for FF, but when compared to F/2 and F/1.7 lenses on other systems that have more cameras with IBIS, it ends up a much less desirable lens.
To make you happy though we can say Sony STILL lacks a sharp wide aperture pancake lens or SHARP pancake zoom.

And you've hit rock bottom if you think the GIANT Sigma lens is a good match for APSC. It is larger than huge. That is not an exaggeration either.
It is a terrible match for Sony's APSC camera with poor ergonomics.
Here is how big the much smaller Sigma F/1.4 is compared to F1/.2 lenses. It is a joke on APSC cameras.

The could be for Canon M too, which has been the most popular mirrorless system in Japan for a few years. Not saying they are, but Tamron has made many lenses in the past for Canon EF.

"Yes, by far the best mirrorless mounts for sure when it comes to lens selection"

The best mount by far for lens selection is Micro Four Thirds. E mount has huge holes. For example there are no sharp "pancake" primes or zooms. It's like Sony gave up on small size. There are also no F/1.2 primes.

And sadly, all but 2 Sony APSC E mount lenses lack IBIS. Most E mount lenses are now made without IBIS and are aimed at FF.

Tamron's own financial report mentions the lenses but not what format they are for.

Platinumkid: I downloaded a couple of RAW files and tbh was not blown away. Pretty much any current high-res FF body will produce more similar than different ones.

I just read any APSC camera with a good lens is better than any FF camera with an average lens. It is hard to argue with generalizations.

I also read that a camera that produces good colors is better than any camera that produces mediocre colors. That I must agree with.

Even when the bad bokeh is the only thing the image has, the image still evokes emotion, of disgust to some, but emotion.

That is a perfect analogy. Even in the same genre, there is some music I can listen to over and over on any speaker, and some that I instantly turn off.
Same with photos, some I enjoy looking at (even make my screen saver) and other I dislike. "IQ" has little to do with it.

#1 Fujifilm Instax Mini Instant Film
#2 Wyze Smart home camera
#3 Wyze Smart home camera
#4 Wyze Smart home camera
#5 Fujifilm Instax Mini Instant Film
#6 GoPro Hero8
#7 is Polaroid film.

FujiFilm has 8 of the top 50 products, Polaroid has 4, and there is a Kodak single use film camera.
The only ILC related product in the top 100 is a Canon 50mm lens. No cameras (there are none in the top 250).

The best is, Amazon ranks being messed up as they always are, the #1 digital camera is a "Kodak FunSaver 35mm Single Use Camera".

neilt3 said,
"There not being any SLR cameras in the top 250 listings is hardly relevant ."

To be clear, there was not a single DSLR, nor mirrorless camera in the top 250.
I checked again and the highest ranking DSLR is #293. The fixed lens X100V is ranked #299, and the highest ranking mirrorless camera is the M50 at #444.

Fujifilm film is now #1, #4, #10, #13 and #15. And one of their film cameras is #14.
And As I said the highest ranked ILC today is #293

Photosbyhank: Years ago our Fuji rep told us that Fujifilm intended to be the last film company standing. Then they promptly started raising the price of their film so much that we sold less and less Fuji and more Kodak and Lomography as they were less expensive. Fuji keeps discontinuing film due to lack of sales but still keeps increasing the price of what they offer. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to do the math on it all.

Actually FujiFilm Instax Film is VERY popular. It out sells all other film.

In reply to:

NotAPhotog: As a Sony shooter, all I can say is...RIP APS-C world! The X-T4 is the "Endgame" for all APS-C cameras everywhere. This is going to leave the entire Sony APS-C lineup in the dust, and Sony won't have an answer to the X-T4 because they just released the A6600 not too long ago.

Many have speculated Sony is now done with APSC, though they'll continue to sell the recent bodies for years just as they still try to sell SLTs. They'll shift to small inexpensive FF bodies.
There was very little new with the recent round of APSC cameras, no real HW updates, and only a few FW updates that improved focusing. This points to what everyone thought, Sony has ended HW development for APSC. Another indicator was no new A7000 that was talked about for years, but that everyone agrees will now never happen.
In two years when the next round of APSC cameras would normally appear from Sony, there will be FF bodies that compete directly. Some say the A7ii already is direct competition at the same price point.
So to save costs, something had to go, and it looks like it is Sony APSC.

I could not agree more.
I also agree with the article, "Emotion and art go hand in hand".

Honestly, resolution, DR, noise, and all the minutia that is argued about here rank far below content and emotion.

A low DR, low resolution, noisy image that evokes great emotion is often a great photo.
A high resolution, noise free, wide range of DR image that evokes no emotion get the "delete" key.

It is a crazy world.
Start with a 108MP sensor.
Combine every 9 pixels to reduce to 12MP.
Shot a picture.
Crop it to 3MP for a 2x zoom.
Use AI to increase resolution back to 12MP.
