About me:

We're two Swedish botanists who both enjoy photography.
We don't bother a lot about who actually takes the photo,
so some photos are my wifes Ragnhild, and some are mine.
Flowers are usually hers, and birds more often mine, we don't always even know!

  • At the time I didn’t miss IS on the 400/5.6, but after using the 100-400II for a couple of years I realize that I would have got better photos with the stabilized lens, so a retroactive yes! I ...
  • When I was young I read a book called Great Northern by Arthur Ransome. And since then it’s always been the Great Northern Diver for me. Not that we see many of them here, I saw one on the West ...
  • I've used that combo successfully once, on this Great Northern Diver https://www.flickr.com/photos/22594688@N08/20080217980/in/album-72157654501412604/ I've tried once or twice since then, and I ...
  • Well after reading what I wrote years ago , I stand by my advice.  You need longer lenses.  Lack of light isn't such a big problem in the Amazons, as you're on the river, so you can probably ...
  • Mostly I use the 6D, either with a tripod, or handheld by resting on something. Or using my body as a tripod (well bipod!), if you hold the camera against your eye and take a photo, on the 6D you ...
  • The GPS is great, especially for Africa! When we’re on a trip, I leave the GPS on all the time, and just make sure I charge the battery every evening, if theres no plug in the room, you can ...
  • The duct-tape sounds like a good idea.  But I'd suggest wearing the strap across your shoulder,  around your neck isn't comfortable.  Both Black-rapid and Peak are designed so you can have the ...
  • She might be disappointed with the ergonomics of the 77D. I went from 40D to 6D the same physical size and loved it, but even though I have small hands I can’t get to like my wives 700D, it’s too ...
  • It won't work, because the Canon strap sticks when you want to get it up to your face quickly. Thats why you need the Peak slide (or the black rapid). /Neil
  • Replied in Peak slide
I use the Peak design slide with the 100-400II and 6D, and it works great for me. /Neil
  • If it’s not perfection you’re looking for, heres something. My wife has always dismissed the SL1/100D as pointless, with a heavy macro lens on it’s just unbalanced. But if she replaced her ...
  • Lichen in caves, especially if it means carrying it a long way. /Neil
  • We were out a couple of nights last summer looking at moths and other night-active insects, we’d hung up a white sheet, and rigged a generator with light. It was great fun, but photography wasn’t ...
  • It sounds like a nice little lens to me, only weighs 190g and has a built-in ring light. 35mm means it would be useful for general photography too. It would suit mirrorless well of course, but as ...
  • Replied in 70-300 DO II
Yes, you're probably right, Canon won't do anything unless there's a profit margin, and I guess thats difficult on that lens. I see it's still for sale, and still very expensive. /Neil
  • Replied in 70-300 DO II
I’d like an updated version of the 70-300DO, it’s a very useful all-round lens, nice size and great for travel and events. A new one with image quality like the 100-400II would be terrific. We had ...
  • Replied in Brainwave?
Yes, you’re right they are the same, and it wasn’t even a 550D we had, it was a 500D! Sorry my memory is getting worse and worse. Even so I still wouldn’t swap my 6D for any rebel, you get the ...
  • Replied in Ours didn't
Ours didn't, we had a 6D and 550D at the same time, there was no comparison, 6D was so much better. /Neil
  • Replied in Brainwave?
It doesn’t work like that.We have a 6D and a 700D and I use the 6D for birding, despite losing the 1.6 crop. The image quality is so much better on the 6D that it stands up to heavy cropping much ...
  • We have a 6D and a 700D between which we often switch lenses, I’d say sharpness isn’t an issue. But lots of other things are when cropping, in particular noise. As soon as the lights less than ...
