Granted, you can do lots more with RAW, but I am lazy and prefer the camera to do the heavy lifting with JPGs. I rarely shoot RAW. I am in total agreement that "specialty" lenses are those lenses ...
  • Hmmmm...   I'll look at that. Thanks David.
  • Those are just ducky Den.. Good ones.  Looks like the new camera is doing well for you.

That table is gorgeous Bill. Great shots of your gems and rocks!!
  • Replied in Some Exhibits
I retired and my main source of income stopped. The plane was just too much money to keep up on social security and a small pension.  Then the FAA required I add ADSB to the plane if I wanted to ...

    Thanks Bill.

Those transceivers are probably 15 years old. Newer stuff is software generated runs on a computer. I watch too many You Tube videos on woodworking projects, then have to try it out for myself.

Thanks Bill. I was using whatever I could find in our scrap pile, so some of those wood pieces didn't quite match. But it is a lot of fun playing with that stuff. I do end up watching too many You ...
  • Replied in Some Exhibits
Here's a few of my other interests. These are exhibits I love to fly. This was my plane for over 15 years. We love to explore the world and try to visit a different country each year. I also love ...

Just three?   I have too many hobbies. Here's a few of them: Entry #1   Ham Radio   My station  _ My call sign is N2HV Entry #2   After selling my real plane, I took up flying RC models. Here are ...
  • If my excursion might offer a photographic opportunity, I will definitely drag along the camera. Most often the RX10iv. If I am just visiting the kids, probably not, unless it is a holiday or ...

It is really hard to design a zoom lens with a very wide range. I would certainly think there might be some compromises with any zoom lens. Per Tom, who had the A version of that lens, and said "Th ...
  • If the A6xxx and Tamron lens would not give me a significant improvement over my RX10iv, then I totally agree, I would not be happy with that combo. The comments from the well respected users of ...
  • Thank you, Dan, for a great challenge. A unique theme brought out lots of excellent photos. Good comments also. Congrats to all the very well deserved HM's and winners. Great shots all. I look ...
  • For travelling, one can't beat the RX10iv for convenience. I would not consider hauling a bag of lenses, tripod and such on a trip. I did that with a collection of Canon EOS gear back in my film ...

    Good point...
  • Replied in What if?
I can certainly relate to that. I owned an A6000 with the 16-55 and 70-210 kit lenses.  The kit lenses were not auspicious in performance. The RX10M3 I had at the same time easily matched the ...
  • Well, thanks for all the comments. I do appreciate them. I am concluding that the Tamron 18-300 lens on the A6400 would not offer "significant" image quality over the RX10iv. Please let me ...
  • Created discussion thread What if?
Probably due to not having enough to do, I was doing some dreaming. Probably a momentary attack of GAS. Suppose, I was to pick up a Sony A6400 and mount a Tamron 18-300 lens on it. I am wondering ...
  • I like the idea of a zoom lens that covers a very wide range. I also am aware that often a lens with exceptional zoom range might have some compromises. Has anybody used the Tamron 18-300 lens on ...
