Dante Birchen: Digital monochrome is just fakery. Shoot like Ansel Adams when you want to do mono.

Use your imagination

Not style, method. And how to do that? Here: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/a7/d5/8e/a7d58ecb5b4f84f19e06d195481a7286.jpg

On article 2017 Roundup: Fixed Prime Lens Cameras (472 comments in total)

Anybody who is in the market for a fixed prime camera doesn't need buying advice. They will just do the research and buy what suits them. I do wish manufacturers would put in weather sealing.

I am confused. Since when does dpreview award stars instead of percentages and silver or gold awards if high enough? Is this new. And in what category is this review? It is not in camera's.

We don't want to make lenses for SLR's thats why we are called SLR Magic....

These video's are pretty boring.

So you think I should use SLR magic adapted somehow as macro lenses marmotto? An entire film about ants maybe?

silentstorm: Budget filmmakers use Fuji, Sigma, Canon, Sony, SLR Magic & perhaps also Samyang cine lenses. :D

or just a Helios ;)

They could have just bought a Hasselblad camera for that instead of the entire company. Then again, maybe that was cheaper.

No smart engineering like the Ricoh Theta. Just put it in a big box and stuff it with specs.

On article Alpha-better: Sony a9 versus a7R II (505 comments in total)

Only if you need the speed and accuracy. There is a reason Canon and Nikon have both fast low megapixel and slower high megapixel camera's. They are for different types of photography. The more pixels the longer it takes to read out a sensor. When you are not shooting machine gun style large files ar not a problem and you are better of with the A7RII.

actually what Sony needs most is a lens like the Canon 200-400mm F4L EF IS USM + 1.4x Extender It is a very versatile long tele.

On article Sony a9: Why being better might not be enough (766 comments in total)

Because in this world it is not about being the best at something, but at being the most popular. Being good at it is only a small aspect.

DPPMetro: Ricoh should really read the part about support, since they ended pro service and didn't see it fit to mention it to the few people covered by it. Not to mention, 645z buyers will likely still think they are getting Pro Service included.

"Working professionals, particularly photojournalists and sports photographers need a good degree of support if anything goes wrong: since neither the news nor a big game will wait for their gear to get fixed."

^^^ one of the reasons why Ricoh-Pentax is failing. Basically, you have to assume that once you buy in, you are mostly on your own.

Thank you for dragging Ricoh into this. All comments should be about Ricoh, regardless the subject.

Dante Birchen: Since it is much smaller than the D5 and 1Dx MKII it would make sense to also shoot with smaller F4 lenses, so you can really carry a light fast system when the situation demands it. Would make sense for a war zone photographer (as long as he can carry enough juice).

The advantage over those is that it is full frame so you can also use a couple of fast but compact primes.
