paleodawg: I've held a GR before and found it to be nice and small. But my phone is smaller, produces better pics (even in low light), has 4k, happens to double as a phone, and is less than half the price...

Who would buy a GRIII?

Action rather than talk...

TWoodPhoto: Flickr is simply the best photo sharing site out there. There are an endless amount of great photographers of all types, groups for the most common and unusual kinds of photography, multiple ways to see and be seen. The organization and sharing possibilities is the best thought out of any of the photo sharing sites I know of. It's unreasonable to expect everything to be free forever. Hope they can thrive and survive.

Agree fully. Check how Flickr presents uploaded photographs then compare that quality with 500px garbage; edge-to edge framing, maps bleeding under the photo frame... Want complete EXIF data? Flickr provides that option, something I find regularly useful. 'Dead photo groups...' Pull the other leg. Finally, post on 500px and Flickr at the same time then, a day later, check your view count. Flickr, and Yamaha, Rule! OK!

left eye: The EVF hump is (relatively) towering, aesthetically rather unbalanced, I wouldn't have thought it but I actually now prefer just as ungainly yet wider Canon M5 hump.

If it is a tilt EVF I will forgive Nikon and buy it. The height of this EVF would give it the room to swing to the side - toward the grip, so I hope this isn't a missed opportunity.

The possibility of a swing & tilt VF is offered on a plate by the electronic connection of an EVF, always a shame to miss out on the immense flexibility it gives. Heck I bought the GFX 50S not because it was medium-format but for its tilt EVF (and BTW the superb wide to standard zoom).

Yep, Magnar W: Warsteiner 'on demand' from that hump would be a welcome drop while the hot European weather lasts :-)

rgs_45: Sony fanboys should wish Nikon to introduce their first mirrorless camera to be a success and priced cheaper than Sony. That way, some if not most, of Sony's overpriced DSLR will come down in price and they can upgrade or buy all the Sony's they want.

I'm not a Sony fan but an ex Nikon shooter. I wish Nikon all the best. More competition in the mirrorless DSLR is good for the consumers.

Please find me the Sony 'overpriced DSLR':

Reduce the saturation by 20% then I'll take them seriously. Meantime, amateur results...

flbrit: At this point itโ€™s not worth saying what we would like to see. We actually have to wait to see what they have done.

Personally, it would have to be very compellling for me to switch back to Nikon since I now havie an extensive Sony and Olympus line up of kit. I will need to see a commitment and extensive line up of lenses to even contemplate a move. This is not likely to happen for a few years.

I do wish Nikon success though. Nostalgia is strong for the brand and good competition is great for the market.

And, despite the gear, can you take-make photographs? There is the question...

GRUBERND: that might finally be the real digital equivalent of the Ricoh GR1s.

something Ricoh themselves never managed to pull off properly - despite the fandom around the digital GR cameras. for me they were all very meh compared to the analog original.

Absolute, utter, complete and terminal garbage! Stay 'meh' and let street photographers in particular continue to enjoy the unique qualities of an inspired design.

Plagen: Yet another slippery soap bar. Are they designing cameras for people or octopuses?

Yes, I am an Octopus, or so my wife opines, and this Sony is grabbing my attention for one reason; I have waited too long for Ricoh to update the GR. Ricoh's speculated announcement in September had better be good.. This puppy ticks my boxes for the street.

Congratulations. To know we have faults and not correct them, is a fault in itself.

Stig Nygaard: This might not be good news for those who use Flickr as a big free dumb backup service. But I can only imagine it's good news for photographers. Sounds like better news than I ever dared dreaming of! :-)

Flickr to be owned by actual photographers and photography enthusiasts !

Take a quiet cruise, check the number of professionals using Flickr, long term, then eat your words.

I have instructed God to ensure this tree does not die. She has agreed. The reason? if this contribution to kitch disappears, along with the stone church at Tekapo and Aoraki/Mt Cook, Kiwi 'photographers' will have nothing left to shoot. Then again, some could go into the streets and begin a new antipodean genre that diverges from the endless attempt to describe the country as 'paradise' which it certainly is not. End of sermon.
