Munro: I didn't know Nikon had an approved lens list for their various cameras. The D800 works well with all the Nikkor lens I've tried on it, ie: 70-200vr, 50 1.4G, 35-70 2.8D and most recently the 85 1.4D which produced some excellent baby pictures in a hostipal room with and without flash at f2 aperture. I read that the new 24-85 vr lens was introduced for use on a new D600 camera to be introduced in the near future. The new 24-85 lens may not be one of their gold ringed pro lens, but the one I have works well on my D800 and my D3200.

I must have a good copy of the Nikon 24-85mm vr lens. It worked well on my D3200 in the store, no stiffness of the zoom ring or other problems, and it works equally well on my D800. The photos are clear and sharp with good saturation. I have many AFS nikkor lens that I use on both cameras. I'm not a pro, just an advanced amateur who strives for sharp photos with good glass. The lens is light weight and will make a good walk-around lens on either camera.

I bought the 24-85 vr lens today and while in the store compared it against the nikon 24-70. I took multiple pictures with both lens of the same subjects inside and out of the store on a new nikon 3200 camera. To my surprise and that of the salesman the 24-85 lens was just as sharp or sharper than the 24-70 and produced prictures that looked just as good as far as color and saturation. The 24-85 is sharper at 85mm than at 24mm. But 24mm was just as good as 24mm on the nikon 24-70 lens. I bought the 24-85 lens, brought it home and tried it on my D800 with very good results. This lens is a keeper. Dave
