  • Yes, you make a good point. The lens I use most on my A7 is a Zeiss FE 2.8/35. I use bigger lenses on bigger cameras for birding, which makes an argument for having different systems for different ...
  • Thanks, interesting. I'll have another look.
  • I don't know what you mean by "suitable" lenses, but couldn't you use your existing Pentax lenses on a K-1 body? Yes, I could. 43/1.9 and 77/1.8 Limited, DA 1:4-5.8/55-300, DFA 1:2.8/100 MACRO, and ...
  • I had a look at one the other day. Apart from the lens question, it's big and heavy and expensive. As a long time Pentax user with suitable lenses I would have been tempted with a small mirrorless FF.
  • I have the EM-5 and A7, so can give you a perspective. Firstly, this kind of question can only be answered if you know what type of photography you prefer and what you intend to do with the images. ...
  • Replied in *istD and TIFF
Yes, I agree. RAW on the K5 and K10D is DNG. On the *istD it's PEF, which may give a different result again.

    Good point. Sorry.
  • Replied in *istD and TIFF
I did a test with my K5 and K10D, same lens, same settings. RAW the K10D gave truer color rendering. The JPEG algorithm in the K5 was far better.  I think you have a god point about the CCD sensor.
  • Except in the case of low light.
  • Replied in *istD and TIFF
I did a test using the same lens and settings on my K10D and K5. The DNG images gave the edge, particularly as regards colour, to the K10D. However, the JPEG algorithm in the K10D gave an inferior ...
  • Replied in *istD and TIFF
Yes, I have a CCD sensor on a Samsung EX1 and really like it. I'll have a look at my K10D and *istD and  compare with my K5.
  • Replied in *istD and TIFF
Thanks, that's fine. I did some tests a few years ago comparing RAW and TIFF and superficially couldn't see much difference. For technical reasons I can't post them here.
  • Replied in *istD and TIFF
Yes, many thanks. I guess my question was why the *istD had both. I think the RAW was PEF, developed in the Pentax photo Laboratory which came with the camera.
  • Created discussion thread *istD and TIFF
I've often wondered why the *istD is the only camera I've owned in the Pentax line that shoot TIFF. Did upgrades also do so? The *istD also shoots RAW, which I would have thought preferable. Does ...
  • It makes me wonder why upgrade, when many posters are still using and enjoying K10D!
  • I have both as well. I've thought of selling them, but they wouldn't be worth much.
  • That's interesting. I hadn't thought of it like that. I mainly differentiate between lenses, not cameras. The reason I've gone from Pentax to mirrorless has to do with weight. I'm getting on and ...
  • Replied in Indefatigable!
Well, I've never had an experience like that! I took a lot of pictures with my K10. Its main drawback was low light performance, but I also take wildflower close ups, where the lack of LV is a ...
  • I had mine out yesterday. I hadn't used it for a while because when I shoot Pentax I use my K5. I'm not in favour of constant upgrades, but in 10 years there have been a lot of improvements in ...
  • Yes. I actually think that lenses are more important than cameras. So, cropping my legacy lenses isn't making optimal use of them. I didn't look at the K1 with a view to relying on Ricoh to produce ...
