Outstanding picture!!! I still think this should have won first, but the winner was also a very nice picture. I am appalled at all the .5 votes on both images.

How do you get 10mm out of a 20-35mm zoom :0)? Just teasing you, Great picture I really like it and congratulations on the win!

First of all, I apologize if I came off a little offended! I try to strive to not be offended, but sadly I fail at that quite often. I will be the first to admit that I like to push the colors to what I like in my photo's and it is fine to do whatever pleases the photographer. The only thing I was bringing up here is that you specifically stated that you did not want pictures desaturated or manipulated to fit the challenge, which is why I withdrew the first couple I posted and re-submitted ones that I had not manupulated. I actually did like the winning picture.
I think we should shoot more and improve where we can and try not to enter a picture too many times. You have to admit we are all getting tired of the smiling baby picture that has been posted in more challenges then I can count on two hands :0).
I do appreciate your hosting challenges, and you probably get more protests (like mine of course), then you get thanks. So here is my Thanks. THANKS RUTH AND MAY GOD BLESS YOUR GIFT!!

Wow, I guess I need to stop wasting my time with these challenges. When people ignore the rules and then the host doesn't enforce them, what is the point of even reading them. Not only is the winner a previous winner (violation), but then you said it was manipulated to fit challenge (which is why you did not disqualify, but also a violation of your rules).

I liked your challenges and it was nice to see what other people are taking, but I have to bow out.

The winner is a spectacular picture, but it seems like they are more about winning these challenges then obeying rule.

RuthC: Congratulations, DaveN01, on placing third in this week's challenge, with your very interesting, slow capture of a windmill at night. The stars in the background are bright, and enhance the image of this very large windmill as the blades spin around and give us this intriguing picture.
RuthC :-)

Thanks Ruth,
It was only 20 degrees f out when I took this. The cold night air reflected the light from the flashlight as I traced the blades around, and I wasn't quite sure I liked the effect, until I got it on the computer, then I kind of really liked it.

On challenge Infrared (1 comment in total)

Seriously? One of the top three didn't pay attention to the written rules. It's a great picture and worthy of it's place, but they didn't follow the rules.
•- Details of the converted camera/infrared filter must be given.

Are hosts or voters just ignoring rules now. What is the point of putting them in if not enforced or voted on with integrity? I didn't have a dog in the fight, but voted by quality and integrity of picture/rules.

If hosts won't enforce them, voters should, or it is a total waste of our time.

IR remote and timer combined. Biggest issue was focus lock, as IR doesn't autofocus, only triggers shutter with timer. I couldn't get autofocus when I wasn't in picture. Trial and error to get focus right.

jambalawa: beautiful image.. my eye does want to see a bit less sky and a bit more at the bottom of the falls however.. might just be me.. might not have been possible of course.. perhaps if you had stood on that rock out the front? 8'P

Voted 4.

I'd be pushing up daisies if I tried to get to that rock :0), its further out then it looks. Someone did die there earlier this year. The trees blocked the lower part of the waterfall from this location. I have other pictures from different spots but not the same color in the sunset. Thanks for your comments and vote.

That is one of my frustrations with this forum. Apparently even the voters don't read the rules of the challenge and give low votes to those who don't meet the challenge rules, and some people give only .5 stars to really nice pictures. I have seen pictures that should have won or at least been in the top 5 and ended up in the 30's.

No editing was done to the picture, except to crop it some. I am really not sure why it came out as it did, which is why I felt it fit the challange. That same night I also took "Electric Road" which placed 18th and it came out like all my other lightning pictures. This one was very unusual. Thanks for your critique.

Thank you for your post, it is nice to see how others see these. Sometimes I don't understand what others see in the way votes go occasionally.
