Another challenge full of "date taken" cheaters and those
who don't understand the challenge's theme ...

cgravel: Thanks for re-opening ! :)

Instead of DQ the entries which don't fit the
challenge's theme - the host increased the limit ...
Sorry , but your submissions - like many others -
don't comply with the description of the
challenge's theme...

On challenge Rainy day - Black and White (22 comments in total)
In reply to:

malcolml1: It's a really interesting topic. Such a shame it is restricted to film only.

@ malcolml1 : Those who have digital images with the
" interesting topic " ( ...photo that illustrates the mood you would feel during a soggy day ) can enter - for example - the Beatles vs. Rolling Stones " challenge...
The Rolling Stones "As Tears Go By" :
"...All I hear is the sound
Of rain falling on the ground
I sit and watch
As tears go by..."

- or The Beatles " Rain " :
"...Can you hear me, that when it rains and shines
(When it rains and shines)
It's just a state of mind?
(When it rains and shines)...

On photo Early morning in SF in the Morning. challenge (1 comment in total)

You are a cheater ...
It's not an "early morning in SF" - it's an early night in SF .
The image was taken at 08.38.PM ... 36 minutes AFTER SUNSET
in this area.

On challenge Morning. (12 comments in total)

I think there is a typo error in the additional rules...
Instead of "Submissions must be shot before 12 pm ." - should be
"... before 12 AM . "

On challenge My favourite lens (12 comments in total)
In reply to:

Bhimaprasad Maiti: While submitting a photo ,one remark is appearing-the date of the shoot must be after the date of announcement. There no such stipulation in the challenge as of now.Is it a hidden agenda.

@ Bhimaprasad Maiti : the rule states , that the photos
must be shot after 27.04.2015 GMT (!!!) time ...
At the time of the announcement , in the time zones
to the west of the GMT - there was still 26.04.2015 .
So , IMO - in some cases , images taken on 26.04.2015
should be accepted ...

On challenge f/22 (12 comments in total)
In reply to:

b f: In response to that my entry was DQ.
The lens was manual and no aperture was recorded. Technically speaking, the star form of the sun is a proof it's taken at f22.

@ b f : even if the lens was manual , a lot of information
( except the lens model , focal length and aperture )
should be recorded in the exif data...But the image has
no exif : zero information.
...And "technically speaking " - the photo shows sun
flares typical for the lens used : Rokinon 8mm fish-eye .
The lens easily produces flares even at f-stops well
below the f/22 ...

On challenge A flower (21 comments in total)
In reply to:

ForrestGump: I'm always surprised in seeing how many comments there are on challenges...I'm not used to this, and therefore I'm always late in answering. Sorry for that.
Some clarification, now.
You should understand PP is difficult to be detected, so I can make mistakes.
BUT, since I don't think I'm right and you're wrong, I'm open to discussion and explanation.
So, whenever you think your entry has been unfairly disqualified, MP me. Explain your reasons, how the image was taken, link me the original image.

Macro vs close up: macro lens isn't a cheap toy, and if someone think he/she has a stunning image, I won't discriminate it on salary basis.

Whole flower vs part: if an image is missing just minimal detail, I consider it a whole flower image.

Entry number: I want to keep it low because, when voting, I'd like people cast their vote on ALL entries. If entries are 60 it can be done, if they're 80 perhaps, if they're 120 it's impossible.

@ ForrestGump - if you never heard about a
"close - up lens " just google it , or read this :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Close-up_filter

On challenge A portrait in Corcos style (5 comments in total)
In reply to:

ForrestGump: 21 entries up to now, and some very good images. There are some pics which has nothing of Corcos style, but some are really impressive!! Quite happy.

Yeah...there are many entries which have nothing to
do with the "Corcos style "...
There are many pictures which don't comply with the rules
you have set ... There are 9 pictures with the longer edge
over 3000 pixels , and some HDR and heavily PP pictures ...

In reply to:

James Stover: My image was challenged because there was too much PP. The color was not highly saturated in PP. The only change was to crop and a slight change to the background. I can post the original image, plus about 50 more similar images. Please restore the image.

Yes , you're right... but , the quoted sentence can be
interpreted in a few ways. What the sentence means -
should be clarified by the host of the challenge...

Looks like you didn't read the challenge's rules :
" Submit a macro picture of one single flower "
Your picture is not a macro picture - it's a close-up picture.
It's not a picture of a "single flower" ...
It's a picture of a Blue Bonnet's singe steam covered
by many flowers...

On photo Dirty at Work in the Dirty portrait challenge (3 comments in total)

The image doesn't comply with the challenge's pp rules :
"Challenges in this series regards all those pics containing no PP except
for minor cropping or straightening. Obviously, no HDR or focus
stacking allowed. "

On challenge A still life that contains something Electronic (5 comments in total)
In reply to:

tasad: Looks like the majority of the entrants didn't read this :
" MAKE A STILL LIFE COMPOSITION that includes something electronic "
A photo of a single electronic item - is not a "still life" ...
What is a Still Life ?...
"Still life is a COMPOSITION of several lifeless object brought
together by a certain theme . Still life should clearly express a certain
idea. It may be made up of objects put together according to their
practical function or have some concept that is being explored "
- "Still life photography " by Maggi Carstairs
https://www.wiziq.com/tutorial/28474-Still-Life-Photography

Well, a snapshot of a tablet's display is really
unconventional and avantgarde interpretation of
the classical definition of the Still Life.
IMO -the sentence : "Make a still live composition that
includes something electronic " - is clear enough to
understand , what the challenge is about ...
The problem is , that some entrants read just the
next sentence.
P.S.
Sorry for the double post.

On challenge Rustic - HDR (15 comments in total)
In reply to:

ShKen: Hi all, I see that there is a vibrant debate regarding this theme definition. I do encourage people to look in various on-line dictionary in order to come up with a personal artistic interpretation of the term rustic. I also encourage voters to consider not only the technical and aesthetic aspects of the entry but also the interpretation suggested by the photographer. I'm going to DQ photos which are clearly cannot accepted as rustic.

@ ShKen :
Sorry , but I didn't notice so massive disqualification...
If "more than 20 entries " were DQ-ed - there are still
some you've missed . For example: how rich in the mentioned
details are entries : "Key West cemetery " and "Dry Sub".
These images are not even HDR's.
The challenge is about "places" , so why there are pictures
of objects ( tools , nut/bolt ).
What kind of "rustic places " are : Golden Gate Bridge , a
downtown of a beautiful city , a National Park , a museum exhibit , a religious festival ?...
First and foremost : it's your job - not the voters - to judge
how these entries comply with the theme you've created...
Don't turn the challenge into a farce...
