On article Sony announces new ultra-fast FE 50mm F1.2 GM lens (548 comments in total)

Canon and Nikon just can't compete. Once again Sony has beaten them on size, weight, quality, and price.

It's hard to believe people are still buying Nikon and Canon cameras.

Looks like they've finally caught up with Sony, and then some. Will be interesting to see how the A7iv (and A7siii?) compare.

What's coma performance like for astrophotography? Does it have the same special elements featured in the 24mm GM to reduce aberrations?

As a Sony user, this camera looks amazing. Competition is good and this will hopefully influence Sony's plans for A74 and A7siii. Let's just wait and see if Canon finds a way to cripple it.

Imagine carrying around a big, heavy, ugly camera like this all day. No thanks.

So it's crass to print your own photos and display them in your own home? I must be an awful person. You learn something new everyday!

(unknown member): I use a CPL still, but never ND's anymore (unless it's video).

Software has made the use of ND's unnecessary. I thought I may be wrong a few years ago, but haven't touched my bag of ND's for almost 4 years.

Not worrying about the IQ degradation has been nice.
I wish Nisi the best though, they make good quality gear.

If you are doing a long exposure and want to stop the sky blowing out, you will need a graduated ND. There is no software replacement for this.

zeltzer: Get real Sony!! Were is the A7000, with the new 32.5MPX sensor , in body IBIS and semi pro features??? Saving market share for the A7 series?

There is no room for such a camera now the a6600 is priced at $1400.

Eden_808: Sony's 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm are all cheaper than the Nikon mirrorless equivalents. Nikon have missed a trick with their pricing, and I think the exodus to Sony will continue.

I agree the Nikon 50mm is better but the jury is still out on the 35mm.
