kreislauf: wow. almost 1000 fps? very cool

Plus you can put a 256gb memory card in it and make it the highest capacity phone out. Pretty simple.

NovakM: Impressive.
However, battery life on my Z5 is not. Hope they improve that aspect. Also.... 0.18 seconds recording time means you have to have Ninja like reflexes to capture those precise moments.
Still nice to see this tech being pushed in smart phones.

The z5 has one of the worst Snap dragon flagship processors made. The 810 was really not a good processor. It was not energy efficient and also over heated alot.

princecody: iPhone 7 killer 🤔

Most flagship android phones beat the iPhone 7/7+ in the camera department. The have for 2-3 years now.

The 20mp one is mono

Well...i have nothing bad to say about this phone. The CPU is highly efficient and the GPU Is a mali g71mp8. Which beats any android currently on the market. Large battery, good lower power screen, looks to be a decent camera set up and expandable storage.

Contra Mundum: It's not a bad lens, just soft, suffers from spherical and chromatic aberrations. But why is it priced so high? An optically better Canon EF-M 22/2 retails for $249, and was often available for $100 grey market.

Because no one wants to buy an M camera. So the market demands low prices.

RJ68: Not surprised and can only add my personal buying choices to others. Wages have remained flat since 2008 but that news clearly has not reached the ears of Japanese camera makers who ramp up prices regularly. Exchange rates do not reflect their price increases either. I don't supply sympathy to world-wide brands that choose to manufacture in well known earth quake zones either. Keep your admin there but move your tech out. A sensible decision.

Finally when we look at almost any source of photography news that clearly shows professional photography is in decline, in favour of candid shots captured by all on phones, and you can see the camera makers have taken on a fight with the rest of the world they cannot possibly win.

Hence why their phone business is making profit.

They are one of the few companies making money with their phone business besides apple and samsung.

They have the same wide angle camera(1/3.0 sensor size). The plus just has that crappy 50mm camera as well(1/3.6 sensor).

AbrasiveReducer: Since earthquakes are not unknown in Japan and the bulk of Nikon's business is cameras, one could argue that tying their fortunes to a single supplier (who also happens to be a competitor) was not very shrewd. What's the plan if there's another quake?

Alot of brands used to buy from Toshiba. Now they can not. Sony bought them.

Just put a thin coat of Vaseline over the mk 2, and shoot. You'll have the mark 1. :)

cdembrey: Both Canon and Nikon make stabilized 18-200mm convenience lenses—what more does the average snap-shot and vacation camera need??

BTW, if you are a landscape photographer who uses a Canon 5DsR, why would you need anything other than a Canon 16-35mm f/4 L IS.

Maybe astro landscape.

In reply to:

DualSystemGuy: Anything with "Ultra" in it's name and a premium price in 2017 should be running the Snapdragon 835 like the Galaxy S8 (and presumably every other android flagship) is getting. The 821 is a great processor but it's old news (sad, but true in the world of mobiles). HTC makes some of the very best hardware though so I'm sure this will still be a fantastic phone.

The 821 was just recently announced.
The first phone with the 835 will either be the HTC m11 or what ever, the LG g6 or the S8. Likely not the S8 unless it's announced before MWC, the will have a separate shower for it. Not the MWC unlike the first 2.

It's the same sensor that's in the pixel.

Attilasz: I understand digital evolution cannot stop, but still think that 4k video is useless for most users. Few have 4k tv, and honestly how many are watching the videos on a tv screen? Not to mention that 4k is producing huge files that are hard to use, copy, etc.
And I know a lot of ppl have or getting 4k screens, but those who do probably wont buy a M5, but something more expensive.

Most higher end cell phones have 2k screens now...besides iphones which are stuck in 2012.

wakaba: Those filters are wonderful. Live in a town at the bottom of a mountain with some seriously large t-scopes. We have very dim and few streetlights and most homes are also dimly lit because of the scopes. No need for astro-filters anymore. Almost zero light pollution. Sleepquality is amazing without all that pollution. There really is no need for leaving lights on at night in buildings and on the street. Its time to turn of the lights worldwide and enjoy the nightsky again.

And get robbed....
