sanosai: Twice the price of the 14-24mm Sigma. And the Sigma has already received very positive feedback. Is the GM twice as good as the Sigma?
I get that it should be more expensive. It's 2mm wider, which means more complex and it's got that GM badge. But twice the price? Really?

Ultimately the consumer price is a commercially driven thing... what price would give the best return. Waiting will pay off... traditionally the price will drop with 200 to 300 tokens (euro or dollar) after two months and again after a year. But hey isn't it cool to be the first to have this great lens?

For enthousiasts it is a matter of 'am I willing (able) to pay for it?', for professionals it is a matter of return of investment; does it bring 3000 more revenue?

Sony probably put a lot of development money in it to create a first in class lens like this where others are able to buy and reverse engineer it. And they gambled that there are enough pro's and enthousiasts to put down their three grand for it.

- I am still debating... and see if there is any tokens left after the aS3 - I am afraid not.

If you can... get on the stage! Polite asking ahead of the show can do wonders... Sitting on the side of the band or better, a little behind, gives a unique perspective and the theater lights give that great back-lite instead of a frontal flood.

Thanks for the story! I especially like the professional considerations about the useability of the cropped images. It makes a fellow 36MP shooter very happy :-)
