About me:

I am an amateur photographer from the Silicon Valley Bay Area. Having adopted digital relatively late, in September 2003, I currently shoot with a D3 and D800. I am primarily a shooter of generic nature but I particularly enjoy shooting landscape and people.

I use Nikkor lenses (from 14mm to 400mm) and Nikon speedlights (SB-800 and 3 x SB-600). For support, I use Gitzo tripod, RRS ballhead, RRS L-bracket and lens plates.

This is worthy of first place. The one that came in first does not have any fire in it. Well done.

Take what Nikon Rumors say with a large pinch of salt.

jnk: just curious - why would DPR provide firmware notice for the D4/users and yet - the camera has not been review?

Since when is DPR only allowed to show news of a camera if and only if they have published its review?

HansJN: Just skipping over the text I first read that "Nikon has launched a new 18-35 ... $18000". Ouch ;-)

You mixed up the price of the 800/5.6 with that of the 18-35. The zoom is suggested to be retailed at $750.

photo nuts: This camera will (i) seal Nikon's status as the bestselling DSLR manufacturer worldwide (ii) stem the loss of converts to mirrorless cameras (iii) help ensure FF DSLRs stay relevant for many more years.

While Canon had a massive head-start when digital DSLR cameras were first launched, it appears they are now losing steam rather quickly... Way to go, Nikon!

Actually, that is not entirely true. Canon got a head start when they launched their AF film SLR bodies which had significantly better AF module than that of Nikon. Launch of digital actually gave Nikon a little head start with D1 when Canon did not have a comparable offering. Canon quickly made amends though.

ianimal: Ain't Nikon making some of the equipment Sony are using for making sensors? If so I guess there is alot of sharing between these companies. I don't know, but also it looks like Japanese companies buy into each other and may share and support each other? Not all, but some. Maybe Olympus could make some lenses for Sony (Sony now owns some parts of Olympus)? The odd part is why all this secrets about who is working with who.
I have a friend who did work with reparing TV's. He told me in most of the TV's there where parts from LG. That was some years ago I must add.

The steppers that Sony uses to fabricate the sensors are made by Nikon.

Ruy Penalva: You pay for a Nikon but get a Sony. Why not buy the original?

So, you think the sensor is the only thing in the camera? Sony only provides the sensor...

This is amazing and a piece of art. Deserves a higher place. Personally, I would've ranked it first.

On article Nikon D4 overview (837 comments in total)

This is exactly what I wanted (obviously, I don't need anything more than a D3). I don't want very high mega pixel. I want subtle improvements to the D3's AF module and I want improvement on high ISO performance of D3 (I am not referring to D3s but D3). I think, I get all of the 3. So, I am sold. Now it depends on how quickly B&H can fulfill my order ;-).
