It would be nice (and I'll try to look around) to see some low-ish light shots from the Canon EFS 55-250 IS STM (at 13 ozs plus adapter under 1 lbs) vs those using the popular micro four thirds ones.

Wouldn't the Canon M's larger sensor and 8 extra MP's mean something as well? j

Actually I really appreciate the thoughtful conversation. I think the issue for me when it comes to a fairly lightweight pretty high quality zoom is the Canon EF-S 55-250mm IS STM. Its rather light ...

Helen, Thanks for the very thoughtful and experienced reply. Just one more question (if I could) you had said the Canon's were more noisy than the four thirds cameras, how about the rest of the IQ ...

I was considering something small like the Panasonic GX85 with a zoom in the range of 150 to 200mm. I am trying to learn how these zooms compare to what canon offers. Thanks

Forgot to mention that only other lightweight zoom that is very good is the Fujifilm XC 50-230mm F4.5-6.7 OIS which is about the same weight as the 13oz cannon. Of course it's f range seems not to ...

Johnathan, ive been researching this for awhile and I simply haven't read anyone just come out and say it. I supected this and you seem to confirm it: " I have tried a couple of the affordable tele ...

Was in the market for a lightweight cam with a decent (not a great one as the weight ruins the portability) zoom. The new canon M's are looking pretty good and even seem to be bumping up against ...

from the results Ive seen from it its pretty good. And if the main goal is good picture quality (not great) with portability than I'd rather this cheap and light canon lens, than ones double the ...
-
Yes I'm talking about those Fuji zooms you mention and I'm saying that the Canon 55-200mm Zoom, while not as good with IQ, is still pretty good while making the Canon rather more portable than the ...
-
If anyone has compared the size of canon cheaper 200mm zoom to that of the Fuji it's not even close; the Fuji looks double the size and isn't all that portable or light. For traveling light with a ...

only downside I can see with the RX100 is its 100mm zoom as compared to something like 300 or 400mm with several of the zooms on the others. That is quite a difference for many types of shots. j

Alias, great and practical advice. With these two cams its obviously a really close call. It seems to be such because for zoom use, Fuji and Sony mirror-less set-ups are simply too heavy in...

"you sacrifice a bit in resulting IQ but get reach and images that are otherwise impossible to get with an m100+55/250." You don't mean the 1 inch sensor cams will have better IQ within the...

Have to wonder how this compares as a zoom camera (using something like the cannon 55-250 STM) to a Micro four thirds Cam with a similar sized zoom. Seems like that cannon lens might be rather...

Thank you both very much for the help! Ill try both izoom and the software. J

Thanks for the reply. Do you know what king of resolution I will be left with? Maybe 8mega pixels? Thanks
