truknayr23: Dear host.. can i just clarify? The shot has to be taken 1 meter or less from the ground shooting upwards? or not necessarily upwards as long as it shot close to the ground? just asking... if you see the entries right now there are shots taken close to the ground but not pointed upwards and some are pointed upwards but are not shot close to the ground... Cheers!

After the challenge started and I started to see the enteries I realised that I wasn't specific in the challenge blurb and heading about wha I wanted and I could se that it could be intepreted both ways. As such I have had to leave the challenge open to both types of entries. I also agree that you cannot categorically tell how close the camera is to the ground in all shots, so I have had to leave that open as well. I should have written the challenge statement clearer. Sorry

Regardless of your personal beliefs on the subject, as a challenge host, each time you create a challenge you are instructed to
'"Challenge creation guidelines
•Please only create challenges which are appropriate for a broad family viewership
•Please avoid any theme which may incite hatred or illegal activity
•Disallowed themes - we do not allow challenges created around the following themes: Glamour, Lingerie, Swimsuit, Nudity, Voyeurism"
As such there are several images that should be disqualified immediately.

Please don't submit photos of implied triangles - I want to see 3 complete sides with sharp connecting points.

twozet: Since the most of the entrants attached brief description, I found this challenge educational and very enjoyable. Congratulation AussieJo

I'm finding it educationally enjoyable in a way other challenges I have run in the past haven't impacted me. If anyone should have any ideas of photo challenge themes along the lines of countries and their stereotypical ____ I would love to hear your ideas in a comment sent direct to me.

IIIkraM_sd1_nonaC: With all due respect and the shot is a good one, the Sunflower is not stereotypical of Italy.
The national flower of Italy is a lily white lily or poppy. Are you going to insure people just aren't just uploading nice shots of flowers?
This is actually one of the best challenges I have seen. Very interesting and wonderful to see other countries typical flowers!

Thanks for your support of the challenge. My aim is to use these challenges to give us all a bit of an education about how things are different and unique in different parts of the world and at the same time there are so many similarities. Unfortunately I am not a gardener so I don't just know whether someone is submitting a flower that is stereotypical of the country they nominate, or whether they are just submiting their favourite flower snapshot.
Hopefully people will read this section before submitting or voting so that they get the idea behind the challenge.

Are you then saying that this Iris does not qualify as a Dutch Tulip variety and I should disqualify it?

I'll confess in advance that I am not a gardener, so I wont know if flowers are derived from specific countries or not - so I encourage you to please stick to the flowers that are internationally known for being from that country. Apparently The Netherlands does grow what is known as a Dutch Iris, but I have already recieved complaints that this type of flower is not what the Dutch are known for. I don't want to spark a debate, I just ask you to stick to the obvious flowers of a country.

Please make certain that your predominate shape is a sqaure - and object with 4 equal sides at right angles to each other. I am holding another challenge in a couple of weeks for rectangles.

Please note "You must put in the description what people group/country they are representing." If you do not then I will disqualify the image and ask you to resubmit it.

After looking through these images I would like to make a gentle comment that is meant to be thought provoking for some newbie photographers. When entering challenges don't get so caught up on the theme (show movement) that you also forget about good composition, lighting and an interesting subject. The wining entry is likely to be strong in all areas.

Everytime you add a challenge this message appears at the top of the screen:

I have a loose definition of a fast shutter speed for this challege - fast enough to freeze the motion. Any image is dependant on the combination of ISO, Shutter, Apeture and potentially flash. I am not going to DQ an image because the shutter speed was not the primary element they used to achieve their look. The intention of the challenge was to freeze the motion and how well that was achieved.

I notice that the photos featuring nudity was removed - was that your decision or DPR's intervention? Please let us know so that all members can learn from this experience

As a wedding photographer myself I know that what looks like a candid shot can be staged and sometimes candid moments occur during a staged shot - it all depends on your definition of candid, so I am happy to leave the quality of the interpretation of what is a good candid shot up to the voters.

I am not after panning images (these will be disqualified for the majority of the image not being sharp). I don't mind DOF issues creating background details not to be in focus.

I wont go through and send the challenge host multiple complaints about this, but in DPR rules it states no swimsuit and no nudity photos. I am disappointed that this isn't reinforced.

I'm really after candid shots, not posed shots, and at least one person in the couple has to be looking at the other person - and both the bride and groom should be in the photo. I wont disqualify for the first issue, but the other two I will.
