  • I use AI servo most of the time, but then I also use back button focusing.  If you don't use BBF but want to focus and recompose, I don't think it's going to work. Mike
  • I went to Bempton Cliffs at the end of May but only just got round to sorting through the images.  Here are a few: *  Kittiwake with nesting material *  Fulmar *  Juvenile Gannet *  Squabbling Gannets
  • Replied in Sorry...
Talking to others at Thursley today, it was the same old story...   "You should have been here yesterday - they were putting on a great display." The weather looks promising Sunday, so may have ...
  • Replied in Sorry...
Awww....  Too bad.  Actually I'd hoped to get some pictures of Hobbies catching dragonflies, but they weren't flying (the Hobbies that is).  Too hot and/or calm I think. Mike
  • I went to Thursley Common today to try and shoot some Hobbies, but none were flying.  Had to content myself with trying to capture Emperor Dragonflies on the wing. Mike Emperor Dragonfly
  • I've had the 400DOII for a couple of months now.  I've not noticed any 'onion ring' rendering of OOF highlights worth speaking of (which was a worry prior to getting the lens).  I exchanged it for ...
  • Thanks!  Hoping to go back this week for another go at the Hobbies before they leave. Mike
  • Replied in Hobby and Cuckoo
Taken at Thursley Common this week - a Hobby and a Cuckoo in the rain. Mike Hobby Cuckoo in the Rain
  • You can optionally insure against production failures when on a shoot.  For a professional, that's going to be worthwhile.  Of course the more risks you insure against, the greater the premium is ...
  • Not sure anything unusual about that. Does your car insurance cover you for repairs if you break down? Mike
  • I too am using Imaging Insurance.  Always on the lookout for a better deal but not found one yet.  Of course the proof of the pudding is when you need to claim, and thankfully I've not needed to ...
  • Replied in Duckling
Thanks.  The 400 DO II is a recent acquisition - I traded it for my 300 II to get a bit more reach.  I'm pretty impressed with it so far.  It seems to work well with the x2, and much easier to ...
  • Replied in Duckling
A Mallard Duckling taken at a local pond. Something cute for Easter.  :-) Mike Duckling
  • Just been experimenting to see what may be possible.  Promising, but more work needed when the lighting's right. Mike Robin Coming in to Land
  • Replied in Marsh Harrier
Thanks!  Since posting this I've tried increasing the contrast on the bird which is an improvement.  Might print it.  :) Mike
  • Replied in Marsh Harrier
Taken at Elmley Marshes on the Isle of Sheppey, Kent.  The pair of Harriers were nest-building quite near the road.  The rules of the reserve say you must stay in your car which acts as a handy ...
  • Went out yesterday to Kelsey Park near Croydon to photograph nesting Grey Herons, but got side-tracked by the Parakeets which are common in parts of London. This shot amused me as it peered out ...
  • My current settings can be thought of as a blend of Case 5 and Case 2. According to the Canon manual, Case 5 is for subjects which keep at more or less constant speed, but change direction.  The ...
