Contra Mundum: The truth is that nobody would have noticed this camera if not for the red dot and a hefty price tag. Ironically, the last thing Leica is related to is photography. It's an item for Wine Connoisseur or Golf magazine.
Some women throw a lot of money on diamond pendants, some men -- on Leica cameras, the purpose of both is to impress others. If you are interested in taking photos, on the other hand, there are a lot better choices out there.

I agree, and I hate Porsche and mid twenties bikini models to.

ADiStefano: When Steve Jobs introduced the Iphone 4, possibly the greatest phone at that time since the Iphone 1, he described its construction as '[l]ike a beautiful old Leica camera' (https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/35516661).

These cameras are not designed to be appreciated in comparison to other cameras (like, for example, a sony). Really, you either want one for the construction and feel of the camera and the images it produces, or you want the prestige attached to the brand. Irrespective of whether you do not agree with the latter as a purchasing motivation, you should respect the former.

Contra Mundum. The bulky manual cameras is not very modern and history doesnt impress me much, but even the first digital M´s delivered impressive pictures IMO. I guess it´s mostly because of the worlds best lenses, (that goes for binoculars to) that gives the incredible depth and contrast to the outcome of their "fancy boxes" and that is what I want.

I agree with you. And I´ll probably never own a Leica, but with 35 years of interest in photo, I´ve never seen anything that compares to Leica. It´s about subtle things like the crisp and contrast and the sharpness and the rendering of backgrounds in out of focus areas that does it. The red spot and the price has nothing to do with it, but I have to admit beeing a bit frustrated about the price.
I dont even like the focusing on Leica, still, when I get the cash I´ll get one, just because nothing compaires.

Smaug01: What do you guys think of Leica Q vs. Nikon D610 and any nice prime of your choice?

As attractive as the Leica is, I think I will go Nikon, and leave my options open for other types of photography.

Not really... You can crop your prints with a pair of sissors to.

Canon never made it to the top in the compact section.
I´ve been checking it out since the start of the race.
At this time for Canon I´d go for making a superb house with superb handeling but let the guys with the knowledge do the lenses. Ad Wifi and sign up with Instagram, package it with a pancake lens that beats all the others in its measures but delivers like a Budweiser in quality. Get that chit out on the market and become a legend with the help of others.
Remember your history and you might profit on it.
Think M-mount and end this extremly boring war.

Looks "compact" to me.
Not one sharp hair. Stabilaser trouble, micro hand shake or bad optics?

I think it looks great!
A bit like the Hexar I nerver bought.
Little worried about all the features, don´t like cameras that get´s smart whit me. Apperture, shutterspeed, selftimer and iso adjustment is all I want. Nothing else than RAW will ever be worth shooting and if I´m really drunk I´d forget about taking pictures anyway, despite the 15 different programs for this and that.

The only flashy function I´d use would be some kind of apps for the camera, like Hipstamatic and a bluetooth connection for the cellphone to share my vacations on facebook or flickr while I´m having a beer at the dinner resturant.
