Sandy's recent activity

  • I have had external and internal  HDDs fail - and a SSD.  Twice I had my external backup and an internal fail within a week or two of each other.  I didn't lose anything because I moved files ...
  • Just started serious decluttering - moving to a smaller house having been in this one 31 years.  I'll pass my old digitals to charity shops, the oldest being a Sony F505.  I have 4 old film ...
  • Thanks Les.  The slides are more for their memories and few (none?) are examples of exceptional photography so top class copying is not necessary.  However, the price difference for higher vs ...
  • I have several hundred 35mm slides to convert to digital.  There seem to be several UK companies selling this service.  Any recommendations - or companies to avoid please?
  • I have the Sony 70-400 v1 - an excellent lens IMHO and a Kenco 1.4x teleplus TC. They connect up etc but any improvement in image quality vs a cropped image without TC is marginal - add the loss ...
  • Thanks Michael.  I haven't made my decision yet - and I'm hoping January sales help me.
  • Re P800.  I thought I resd a while ago that it warned you when you were aout to change black ink type - so you don't change inadvertently.  Is that true? One reason I got the 3880 was the large ...
  • Created discussion thread Qimage and Mac - update
Mike Chaney has just posted in his forum: We are so far along that the beta program is closed now. I'd say if you can wait a couple weeks... it'd be worth waiting. I don't own a Mac but I know how ...
  • Vernon, re whether both photo and matte black fail to print - I looked at other sites as well as DPReview and there were several mentions of both blacks failing.  I can't remember whether these ...
  • It started about 3 days ago - after 8 years trouble free (almost entirely using photo black)!  A picture I printed looked awful - missing black.  A nozzle check showed >90% nozzles blocked on ...
  • Thanks. I've done a bit of research and also know what I have been printing. I've tried to avoid the "what printer do I buy" question because it's up to me to weigh up the virtues and otherwise in ...
  • Created discussion thread Replacing an Epson 3880
My Epson 3880 looks to have the matt/photo black valve problem that has killed many of its bretheern. It's 8 years old so I shouldn't complain - well I am because if it had had the good grace to ...
  • Replied in Macrium v5.3

  • Replied in Macrium v5.3
Sorry, it is formatted as a simple volume and recognised by Macrium in its list of drives (as Q).  Actually Q is a 3TB drive and I have created a partition at 2TB. I'll do that. Thanks
  • I too normally shoot in aperture with my A77II.  I have the front dial set to exposure and the rear to aperture - but you can swap these around . Try Menu -Settings 7.  Not sure whether you can ...
  • Created discussion thread Macrium v5.3
I have Macrium Reflect Professional v5.3 which has served me well for a few years. I want to put a saved image of Win 8.1 (on disc P) onto an empty disc (Q). However, I don't seem to be able to ...
  • I had a top quality WD drive that died in a year - replaced under warranty,    A couple of external drives that died in about 3 years, an SSD that had a 5y warranty and died in under a year ...
  • Replied in Good For you!
I use Avast (free) and scan periodically with Superantispyware and Malwarebytes.  I understood that when using Avast , Win Defender became passive but did occasional scans off its own volition.  I ...
  • I've been on holiday in Japan 3 or 4 times - so different and the food is wonderful. Tokyo is BUSY and crowded so don't be surprised if you find your tripod and/or a large bag an encumbrance on ...
  • The temp might be a bit on the warm side though not to a worrying degree - but I don't know your particular setup so the temps might indeed be normal. The fan speed is OK but some setups will ...
