You can take photos when it overheats. But the image quality of the photo will be affected.

Let's not forget overheating will affect still image quality too. This is well documented in the R5 user manual.

It's not intended for professional movie makers. It's for enthusiasts, like an overclocked computer for gamer. It's too unstable for professional use.

If you want supreme quality 4k video, with high DR and ISO performance, go Sony. If you really need 8k video, buy the Canon R5.
