The EXIF from this image is misleading. This is obviously longer than a 1 second exposure. I recently did some star photos with the 45mm f/1.2 at 2 seconds and there were no star trails.

If you want 4K video at 60p then you'll have to look at the Panasonic's. The newer Olympus bodies only do 30p at 4K resolution. This doesn't bother me since when I shoot video (which isn't very ...

You may want to consider what device your video's will be displayed on. Most likely a 16:9 monitor. I suppose if you don't mind borders then 4:3 will work.

No you must use a Tripod!!! It's funny, I recently started a couple of threads about optimal settings for astrophotography, 90% of the people that responded couldn't get over that fact that I ...

I always shoot RAW+JPEG, storage space is cheap and abundant. I noticed the NR automatically kicked on when I went from 2 to 4 seconds (there must be a setting for this somewhere). That formula ...

Oh, okay. Didn't know there was such a thing. Many of the 4/3 lenses are hard to give up.
-
Yes, I've been hearing that ISO 2000 is the sweet spot. But, why would you stop down this lens to f/4 for stars? Seems like f/2.8 at half the time would have been better?
-
It's not that I'm opposed to stacking. My scenario is more of a nighttime landscape photo and getting the most out of the sky. A single image is the goal.
-
So if I make 2 exposures, 1st at ISO 200, 2nd at ISO 2000 (same aperture and shutter speed) what will be the difference in post processing capability as far as noise and detail of faint stars?
-
Right, but I specifically asked about a single (and not multiple stacked) exposures. If you don't know the answer then that's okay.
-
Huh? A tripod has nothing to do with the topic of this thread. I know a tripod is good, I have several. That's not what I'm asking.
-
The real question here is how to pull out faint stars and produce a reasonable dark background and minimize noise. If I expose at a lower ISO then the faint stars will disappear (or will they?).

Thanks! It's amazing how many miss the topic of the thread. This thread was cross posted in the Astrophotography Forum.

Okay, that makes sense. Um, you didn't really read the OP very well. This is a no stacking thread! I was already overexposed at 2 seconds, I don't see how tracking would help. Does low ISO at ...

I didn't adjust the contrast at all, only the highlight, mid, shadow levels (Which seems to be contrast on steroids).

Yes, I can appreciate that comment. I actually have 5 of them, the tank, the travel light, and 3 cheapo's I use as flash stands. The IS of the E-M1iii is great but I wouldn't want to use it as a ...

On the E-M1.3 you can use either a cable or wireless remote and they both connect to the same port. With wireless remotes, most mount on the hot shoe but only for support, there is no connection ...

I've been pointing my camera towards the sky recently and have a few questions about the optimal camera settings. My goal is to capture the most detail and dynamic range while avoiding noise. My ...
-
That's a good suggestion but I would expect the answer will depend on the type of camera you use. That's why I posted in the M4/3 forum, many of the camera's share the same or very similar ...
