We are spoiled for choice when it comes to great value and innovative third party lenses for the E Mount. And then comes this gem. Just fantastic!

It's a wonderful time to be a Sony shooter!

@vscd - My friend, if you are on these pages, you are NOT in Canon's stated target audience. Canon says they are targeting this camera at those who are considering stepping up from a smartphone and...

Canon wants to market the R8 to people who want to step up from a phone? High-end phones have IBIS. How is this a step-up? (Those with cheap phones with no IBIS won't buy a dedicated camera.)
-
Each of said batteries cost $59 + tax. If you need just two extra ones, that's $120 + tax. Plus add the cost of a gimbal if you want to shoot video. The R8 is not that cheap all the sudden, is it?

Hmmm, the flange distance = the space between the sensor and the back of the lens mount is constant for all RF mount cameras by design. It has to be. In the case of the R8, the space where the EOS...

Precisely. Even if they try to mitigate the exposure change in software, it is puzzling why somebody would make this design choice given the complications it introduces. To save 10 grams and $10?...

Sadly, the eFCS issue it not only about truncated bokeh. The bokeh is also less bokehy. It is as though the eFCS images were shot not at f2.8, but rather at a (slightly) narrower aperture. And it...

Thanks Richard. I like shooting wide open. I'll run some tests. The eFCS is the first thing I turn off of every new body I buy. A quick search on YouTube shows that it's not only about the...

Dear Dpreview Staff! How big a deal is the eFront Curtain Shutter bokeh truncation issue? The preview says it's only with fast lenses and high shutter speeds. The thing is, when you use fast...

Guess what, I reran the long exposure test (ISO 12,800, 30 sec exposure), and there are no issues. Everything is back to normal. I wonder how I got those atrocious results earlier this evening. ...

Thanks a lot! Your help is gold! So you are saying that if I rerun the sensor cleaning a few times at ISO 100 (and say at 1/80 of a second shutter speed), the camera will "map out" i.e. forever ...
-
@charlyw64 Sadly, I had already run the sensor cleaning at ISO 12,800 four time by the time I was reading your comment. Not on the recommendation of the prior commenter, but rather on the basis of ...

I know you cannot turn it off on the RP. But I thought you can on the EOS R. My EOS R arrived recently, and even word searching the manual and googling it didn't help. Thanks guys!
-
Thanks again! I will try that.
-
Fantastic. That is one very insightful answer. Thanks a lot CharlyW64!

Thanks. I've tried that already. Didn't work. If I want to try astro photography in the future, it would not be good to have all those "extra stars" in the image.

Hi, I bought a refurbished Canon EOS R, and it has over a dozen hot pixels. (See attached image.) 1. Is this normal? 2. How many hot pixels are "normal"? 3. Is there an easy fix? 4. Should I send ...

You're not alone. One of the Canon refurb bodies I got has a filthy sensor with a ton of dust on it. Otherwise the body looks like new with no scratches or smudges.
