I know it's a pre production sample, but I really dislike the way noise in 100% view is being translated into jpeg patterns. It really distracts the eye from the actual object. Others can do much better here. But final results might be more convincing...

princecody: I read online recently (Sony RX10 Flickr group) that the Sony RX10 IV shoots between f7-f12 majority of the time instead of f2.4-f4. Can anyone who currently owns this camera verify or deny this claim?

"More for me 2:36am, 3 November 2017
ATG says do not be fooled.
Many companies have lied when posting their camera models /or lenses.

This camera is really 24-600mm @ F7.20 to F12.0.
Most of the time this overpriced behave at F12.0 wide open."

This guy mentions the full frame equivalent apertures in respect to total light gathering. Here, the f4 of the RX10m4 gathers the same "amount of photons" as a full frame camera at f12. Relevant especially for depth of focus or "blurred background" considerations.

rmexpress22: It's not weird at all that such an expensive niche camera gets tons of praise and enthusiasm while the 6D2 got a meh response.

/sarcasm

Yeah, camera images look okay. Let's face it, most cameras get good quality and the gap between mid-range and high end is not huge.

This article literally just told people not to be outraged about the price and that it's a pro camera. That it feels like a pro camera like a 1dx or D5. A 6D2 is only $300 more (sans lens, of course) but there was a lot of outrage about that pricing.

It's like there's no effort to hide the blatant bias for Sony. I wonder if Sony directed the talking points for this article.

BTW....seems more as if TowerJazz and NOT Sony might have produced the D850 sensor.... ;)

Now, as the focus as the far biggest weakness of the RX10III seemed to have turned into a strength and also touchscreen has been added, I forgive Sony the lacking ND filter and will start saving money. In the meantime, the first buyers (often abused as beta testers) will tell me if my high expectations are being met ;)

orion1983: They really should have gone back to 12MP wit a new sensor instead of pumping it to 18MP. Too much grainy noise even at low ISO settings. And too much texture being eaten up. Also very bad blurred and noisy contrasty edges. Really disappointing TO ME. Am hoping for a 12MP successor, as 18MP with a 1/2.3" chip can never reach a 12MP quality.

...I mean even 20 MP with the ZS70 :D

I know what you mean, bobbarber, and when this works for you, perfect! But with this tiny sensor, a downsampled 18MP imge is still not as clean as a normal 12MP image imho, and details stay being eaten up. And why creating huge 18MP files to make a manual downsampling. Thus, I will either get me a ZS50 or hope for next year to get less MP although I have few hopes.... ;)

Maybe, Dante, but then 18MP is still much worse than 12MP compard to your proclaimed 8MP. Here a OOC jpeg from the dpreview pre-predecessor ZS50 (12MP) sample gallery for example: https://4.img-dpreview.com/files/p/TS4000x3000~sample_galleries/1892331689/7178144078.jpg
Much "cleaner" IMHO....

orion1983: After all those years of waiting I am STILL waiting for a REAL Canon SX50 replacement. I have a DSLR for better quality, my Galaxy S7 for great wide and macro daily RAW shots, and a small pocketable travel cam.
But a 50x zoom with a very good lens and RAW and a 12MP 1/2.3" chip to keep everything small and still useable with higher ISOs....am still waiting. ...SX60 is a biiig step backwards.

For me, just a new 12MP BSI sensor would be perfect, ideally with improved focus. But I reckon it will just stay a wish...even the SX60 got no update...

orion1983: 12MP ---> 18MP ---> 20MP ...I assume the ISO800+ images will suffer significantly, which will be the dominating ISO settings in non-bright-sun with the mediocre tele f numbers. Was hoping for a switching back to 12MP :/ I think also the new sensor will bot be a major improvement but am openminded to be proven wrong.... :D

I have not found such a premium feature in the lumix yet and doubt it exists in this non-DSLR ;)

Nothing against travel zooms...I love them. But not using LESS instead of MORE MP is a big missed opportunity FOR ME, as a NEW 12MP plus RAW plus 30x zoom was on my wish list as the ZS50 is more and more unfortunately a bit imperfect for my needs.

Unfortunately, I have made the opposite experience... Too much details eaten up with for example 18MP, (e.g., ZS60) even when downsampled and compared to 12MP (e.g., ZS50)... Adding another 2MP will not improve this...

At least with Google's Pixel cam one can see HOW stunningly efficient the combination of multiple pix can work.
