nikon support recommends using pin point af or manual af in heavy snow

Nikon support asked if face/eye-recognition was activ in my images. Maybe they already had your report.

i contacted nikon support and sent them some files

you can see the snowflakes in this crop again shot in af-s so no af-c specific issue

another example. i shot the same scene with and without snow if you look at the ground in the 2nd image you will see sharp twigs in the snow in front of the trees.

unfortunately i have to confirm your observation. i ran into this issue, too (with af-s and single point, too). snow seems to fool the af - even with static (landscape) objects.
