  • On a D7000 and D700 it's not that important. And if you don't have fast lenses and use large apertures, you might not see much difference either. What I always advise is: If you have the feeling ...
  • /rant on/ I don’t understand people saying you can’t AF well with the 105/1.4 and even use MF instead. As harsh as it may sound, but I would say: first learn how your equipment works, then (maybe) ...
  • Imagine you have two potential girlfriends. One is 4 pounds heavier than the other, but the weight is all in the right places, she has an IQ 30 points higher than the other one, she is absolutely ...
  • I was afraid you would come up with that. Well, one thing you can be sure of in this world, is that if Nikon does something, Thom will criticize it. But he is simply wrong here, especially when he ...
  • OK, to go back to the question of the OP: I built a device for AF finetuning that shows me the resolution in lp/mm in the intended point of focus. Based on many tests, I can say that *if* you ...
  • Well, I can only praise you for the braveness to admit that you were wrong. But then this shows very clearly the weakness of fora like this. Everybody acts like he or she is an expert and while ...
  • Well they are, but unlike other manufacturers Nikon doesn't brag about it, because there is no real definition of weather sealed, see also ...
  • I tested it for a photographic magazine and used it about a week. Great lens, no weak points whatsoever. As for the comparison with the Zeiss: you should turn this argument around. Resolution fo ...

Who are you to tell us what Nikon flat is, when several people have explained it already? It's just another log curve. I rebuilt it to use it with older Nikon cameras and it is a lot more...

  • Commented on article Nikon D850 Review

BS. First of all there's Nikon flat. A flat profile is - like any profile - a log. It just has a slightly different gamma curve. But there are many logs available for free - like Cinfeflat - and...

  • I couldn't find any rolling shutter effects with a production D850 review camera firmware 1.0, at least not with panning. Didn't have the time to film fast moving objects though.

  • Idiot! And it isn't the first time, See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/July_12,_2007_Baghdad_airstrike

@ Maxvag: pure speculation. Actually, the lenses are worse than the Nikon lenses especially in the corners. And in this case, the larger sensor will not win, because the market is too small.

So? Does that in any way contradict with what I said? Only if you think that you enter a parallel mathematical universe at the moment you pay $ 99,- for a logarithmic function.

Highlight roll-off is only a problem for those who can't process RAW.

<<The D850 doesn't have any Log gamma options for high-end videographers, but it does have the 'Flat' Picture Profile to squeeze a little extra dynamic range into its footage, without adding too...

  • Firstly: Claff's data (for what they may be worth at this point) indicate the D850 has half a stop better DR at ISO 100 than the others, just like the D810 btw. From ISO 200 downwards DR is better,...

  • + 11111 to em photo's words: <<< Speak for yourself: we aren't in the dark. Nikon isn't, either. Nikon has worked a consistent product line with a remarkably predictable roadmap and timeline, for 5 ...
  • Hi 100pk,
If you want to use ACR, it's better to install Bridge (it's free anyway, even without CC). That's the easiest way. You can tell Bridge to open in ACR within Photoshop or to open in ACR...

  • Reminds me of an old joke. A patient tells the doctor: when I hold my arm like this (holds his arm in an awkward position) it hurts. The doctor: well, you idiot, don't hold it like that!
