Kharan: This project is obviously looked at with derision by most enthusiasts and pros, but Allison does have a good point in her article - the younger generations are far more agreeable to just rent things for short periods instead of owning them. Another characteristic of these people is that they want to dabble in the most incredible, pointless endeavors, especially if they’re outdated.
I think that a truly interesting business niche would be to rent them nice, fully-working medium format systems and lab time, to have them experience the joys of old photography without the hassle of needing to own and care for all that stuff. Include an intro class with Ecuadorian coffee and you’re all set :D
I’d be interested in such a service, especially since MF photography has become impossibly expensive (digital) or difficult (there’s a single remaining lab in my country that processes MF film, and they’re effing expensive).

... these people', 'younger generations' - this is the future of human race, just as we were / are...
there is so much information to be processed.... may be we must simplified everything that is not our main area of interest/income producing, i order to taste them all...

jubilatu: i really do hope that it will not be the last "true" DSLR that we'll ever see...
it's a great tool, but why put a mirror and a supplementary focus sensor , when you could do the same thing without it ? my impression is that the abundance of lenses in a pro world (and the industry behind them) it's the only reason that keeps nikon alive... i hope they have the necessary R&D resources to embrace the future...

if i'll need a new body tomorrow, i'll buy another nikon, because i have a system of lenses, flashes, triggers, camera knowledge, etc and the cost would be bigger if i'd decided to switch. more people buying another cameras (and less buying nikon) could drive nikon in a position where it cannot keep the pace from a technological/ financial pov. then, the cost for changing my tools will be bigger... in fact i need a second body and it will be a nikon because the other elements that represents the nikon system... for now...

they do not need you to buy something form them, because the government already did it for you.
...but i have to admit they're innovative...

i have pictures with dancers and bands taken with nex5n and a manual voightlander at 3200 ISO in dark clubs(they're ok) and i have pics of my wife moving taken with d800 (they're blurry). So, what ?!
the main problem of mirrorless (especially with big sensors) was focusing on moving subjects so it's normally for the leader of the pack to combat this.
there are a lot of great camera in the wild today, buy consciously whats best for you , but do not f-up your gear just because the hype.

hotdog321: I genuinely wonder why there is such an emotional attachment to mirrorless cameras, and the Sony a7RII in particular. The a7RII appears superb on paper and in leisurely situations, but clearly isn't "there" yet for action and for most pro usage. The overheated rhetoric is more akin to a religion or favored sports team than a reasoned discussion.

Folks, trust me. If and when mirrorless cameras surpass DSLR bodies for pro still photographers, we will be the first to dump the old Rube Goldberg DSLR and grab a mirrorless body.

yep, it doesn't matter why, it matters they everybody think that way, making it easy for the seller to concentrate the message.

jubilatu: may the God bless you with the gift of filming your entire life with mirrorless "universal mount" cameras and just fast telephoto lenses ! both provided by your sponsor.
dixit.

c'mon guys, it was a chearing , not a swearing:
1. fast tele's are expensive, so it's a good thing having them
2.mirrorless is universal, so you could have whatever mount is more convenient (for example if you are shooting F1 in singapore at night, you could change a canon 200-400 with a nikkor 600 f/4, on the same A7s body)
3. having a sponsor might be nice ( i do not know, cause i have not one, but i'd like to have somebody paying me for saying things). also having a sponsor assumes that you are famous in your field, so that is also a good thing.

Joriarty: The article should read 41 megaray sensor, not MP, correct?

nice touch !
unfortunately, those "megarays" were intended to "bring litro to the masses" and create general awareness regarding the new company.
Now that this was done, NASA could pump money in wathever BS litro is bringing to the market. watch up Hubble, you are going to be replaced with megarays' king !
too bad for apple that misses this opportunity. iphone6 as the official camera of the international space station !
