Z9 serial numbers (continuation thread)

Rec Jul 28, 2022: SN: 2002298XX

Ordered as Z9 kit since Dec 2021 from B&H, not sure it makes a difference

Just curious when you received that FTZ ii. Again, now I have two of them:
  1. Mid March 2022: 200171**
  2. Mid August 2022: 201400**
And I have a May 2021 FTZ, first version: 302673**.

The original FTZ from 2018 were manufactured in Japan with an 8-digit serial number starting with a 2. Later on Nikon shifted production to Thailand and the serial numbers started over beginning with a 3.

For FTZii, production moved to China and the serial numbers start with 2 again. Needless to say, Nikon must have sold a lot of FTZ/FTZii adapters.

All Z-mount lenses and FTZ/FTZii have 8-digit serial numbers and by far the majority of them start with a 2. Those Thailand made, 2nd batch FTZ are a rare exception with serial numbers starting with a 3.
My FTZII arrived with the camera August 10.

I understand the Z9 serial number in the US has reached 3025000 before the end of August, 2022. Discounting the approximate 10,000 jump in serial numbers back in April, Nikon has probably sold 13K to 14K Z9 in the US. I would say there are roughly around 43K Z9 have been sold world wide. I am pretty sure it has exceeded 40K by now.

We can only speculate on exact numbers - the 10,000 jump might (or might not) indicate a possible increase to around 4,000 a month.

We can only speculate on exactly when Nikon started Z9 production - as distinct from adding firmware some weeks later.

If Nikon started Z9 production in September - then maybe 45,000 units the first year.

The Z9 backlog seems to be shortening in the UK - though some new lenses remain in very short supply in the UK.

Another if - a new body announcement rumour by the end of September might be "about right".

Off the topic heading, the Tamron 70-300 Z mount announcement apparently due tomorrow might point to a Z7 III iteration rather than a Z8.

In lots of ways good photography is similar to learning to play a piano - it takes some practice to develop some skill.

It has been about a month since the last update. Is there any update on the latest Z9 serial numbers, from Europe, US, and everywhere else?

At least in the US, it looks like some stores finally have the Z9 in stock occasionally. You still can't easily buy it off the shelf yet, but if you check around, you can probably get one immediately.

Last week I got notices from 3 different retailers with "To Call" lists that Z9s were available.
