X2D is real??

Not shure what focal lenght but I can say 2 or 3 new lenses are coming
But you don’t know if it’s in the same range as the 45 P?

some cheaper lenses would make the system a lot more attractive.

Pretty sure they would’nt be cheaper (I suppose the opposite actually).

hasselblad lenses can’t be cheaper than Fuji if not cause they have internal leaf shutter.

Any update on this? Just bought a 907x and I love it, but pretty sure I'm going to return it (B&H) with an imminent update looming. Also any word on a CFV/907x update with the new sensor?

The GFX 100 with the updated Sony 44x33mm 102 MP sensor was announced three years ago.* In that time neither Hasselblad nor Pentax has announced anything using this sensor, despite more than a few people here and elsewhere convinced that such a model was coming soon. Could it happen? Maybe. Would a sensible person, examining the public record, suppose that three years on, such a development is imminent / looming? IMO, clearly not.

I really hope Hasselblad and Pentax find a way to make this market a competitive three-way field. But realistically, that is an uncertain course on an almost unknowable timetable--or at least those who know much are unlikely to post it publicly (and those who post publicly are unlikely to know much at least until shortly before it happens).

*Okay, thirteen days short of three years ago: May 23, 2019. See https://www.dpreview.com/news/11793...hase-detect-af-and-4k-video-for-10000-dollars.

Don't you think that Ricoh just gave up? I have the impression that the camera division is not in a good state, and I would not be surprised if Ricoh announced its demise, given the low market share of Pentax/Ricoh cameras. And in particular, in the medium format range, the 645Z has been released in 2014, 8 years ago, with no update.

Regarding Hasselblad, the situation is more difficult. They already have a 100 MP camera, and probably don't want to canibalize it by releasing another one much cheaper. This already happened with the H6D-50c, which was cancelled after the huge success of the X1D. The 100c is of course in a different class, with its larger sensor, but still. I have no idea how Hasselblad is going to solve that dilemma.

Apparently, when Fujifilm developped the 100 MP option, Hasselblad was instead busy refining the X1D. They certainly don't have the ressources that Fuji has. so, patience required.

Obviously I have no way of verifying any of that info, but seems if Hasselblad is going to stay in the medium format business an updated X with the 100mp sensor would have to on offer in the near term.

Hi,

I don't have any Hasselbad gear, but no harm chipping in some thoughts. I think it all boils down to cost of production and profit margin. It maybe cheaper to put a 100MP sensor in the X1D, than to carry on producing the existing 100MP hassey (H6D-100c/400C).

This has been done with the GFX100s and GFX50s2, which are identical bodies but different sensor sizes. Both seem to sell well ( I have both).

I think by bring down the cost of their 100MP in a X1D body form they could get more existing X1D owners to upgrade and those with the H6D physically larger camera body may want a small camera for ease of handling and portability. And a lower price point would also be enticing for those new to Hassey.

My two cents.

IMO at this point, it would probably make more sense for Hasselblad to wait and gear up for the next upcoming generation of Sony sensors, which people seem to think / rumors seem to suggest will arrive late this year. The suppositions vary somewhat, but IMO the most plausible development would be a shared architecture for a FF sensor of about 90 MP for the A7R V, followed quickly by a 44x33mm sensor of about 150 MP.

If this basic sensor development path and timeline are roughly correct, then for Hasselblad (or Pentax) to introduce a 102 MP camera now would be terrible timing. Recent history suggests that Fuji would quickly introduce a GFX 150 or whatever. Hasseblad probably needs to aim for the X2D following not too long after that, with the same 150 MP sensor.

Notice my use of "hope" above. Ricoh may have essentially given up on Pentax cameras, especially medium format. I hope Pentax returns to be a competitive player in this segment--but I don't expect it.

The evidence appears to indicate that Hasselblad has limited resources, and IMO it would make far more sense to put those limited resources into the X-series, which appears to be both more popular and the future.

So IMO the Hasselblad H-series is probably almost as functionally defunct as the Pentax 645 series. I can't see Hasselblad investing significant money to try to make it competitive. For years Phase One has sold a 54x40mm 150 MP CMOS back, and claimed the high end years ago; Hasselblad has not introduced a comparable back (or a new body, the H6 being pretty old). OTOH, I think Hasselblad with the X-series can carve out a viable niche in 44x33mm sensor MILCs, offering a credible alternative to Fuji.

Launching an X2D with the currently available 100MP sensor (June 2022?) could bring two significant improvements: better DR at high ISO (dual gain) and IBIS.

That's true--the ca. 2019 Sony 102 MP 44x33 sensor is a substantial upgrade from the ca. 2013 Sony 51 MP 44x33mm sensor. But then Hasselblad would have suffered three years of not offering the latest sensor while Fuji offered it (May 2019 to June 2022), followed by eight months of offering the latest sensor (June 2022 to say February 2023), followed by probably years of again not offering the latest sensor while Fuji would almost certainly offer it (say February 2023 until whenever). IMO that would be a notably-bad product planning decision for Hasselblad.

I do not think that the age of the sensor design matters as much as its performance.

A new sensor that offers only 150MP instead of 100MP is not a significant upgrade in my book. It is similar to upgrading FF sensors from 40MP to 60MP. Meh, IMO. I would not wait.

I think H would come out in a couple years with a 100cfv … I’m not sold on that cause I think 997x would not benefit much from the new sensor: 50mp are plenty enough, faster readout are not that great on the body (not for fast paced photos), maybe 4k video would be interesting in that small form factor if they implement a raw output or internal 4k raw (I doubt)-..

in general I think the 100mis best suited for the x1/2 body

I never saw even one post claiming such knowledge on the part of the poster. Got a link or two?

I did see some posts speculating about what Hasselblad might do...
Obviously I have no way of verifying any of that info, but seems if Hasselblad is going to stay in the medium format business an updated X with the 100mp sensor would have to on offer in the near term.

I see no claim of knowledge there. I see an assertion with no basis presented.

On hasselbladdigitalforum.com, one poster claims to have the same information from his dealer. I do not remember where, but I remember another source as well.

I am still somewhat suspicious but would not be surprised if something shows up this year.
