Which film simulation gives you the most flexibility in post processing?

If I shoot JPEG in the intent of fast sharing, I've become fan of Reala Ace and Classic Neg.

Reala Ace is a close to Provia, but with deeper (harsher?) tonality gradient, which helps give more pop. It usually require very minimum editing, at most I'll correct brightness locally or globally.

Classic Neg has more personality, but can work really great for certain moods.

Classic Chrome is also a very favorite of mine, when the light is harsh (full sunlight, hot & dry climates...).

I shoot jpeg on my Fujifilm cameras with most of my post-processing done using Snapseed. Film simulation I use now is PRO Neg Hi, but in the past I have used Provia. Which film sim gives you the most latitude? Probably PRO Neg Std - it is easier to add more contrast and saturation in post than it is to subtract it out.

I put this basic daylight set in a custom slot, shoot FINE & Raw and edit the jpeg in Snapseed on iPad. Usually adjust the K white balance in camera according to light conditions.

Film Sim: PRO Neg Std
Dynamic Range: 100
Grain Effect: Off
Color Chrome Effect: Weak
Color Chrome FX Blue: Off
White Balance: 5000 K
Highlight: 0
Shadow: +1
Color: +1
Sharpness: 0 or +1 (No Clarity)
High ISO NR: -4
Clarity: +1

*** I switch the film sim to ACROS +R instead of Pro Neg Std for my basic B&W recipe.

Which editor do you use?

In Lightroom it makes no difference, you can change the simulation at any time, and you change everything the same way, so I just use whichever sim I feel like.
Only if you shoot RAW.
Beat me to it... I am trying to limit my workflow to just jpegs, and want to be able to tweak those with the most latitude.

As far as which editor, I use whatever is on my phone, currently it is between Google Photos and/or Snapseed.
Why JPEG if you are looking for processing with most latitude? JPEGs cam be good if you limit yourself to some dodge and burn.

I want to be able to tweak JPEGs with the most latitude. Jpeg work flow is faster on my phone. I don't do Adobe.

I use Reggie’s Portra mainly, then tweak it using Enlight.
Enlight is a superb App and is capable of getting any look you need, and very quickly …

Pro Neg Standard is pretty neutral, I would often use it in low light. You can also shoot Provia with reduced shadows and highlights if you want.

FWIW I love Nostalgic Neg.

Looking to pick an easy to adjust film simulation. I want to be able to fix things like exposure and wb easily on my phone.

Thinking something neutral, but the default sim has been pretty good.

Thanks for any tips you can offer.
I would think Eterna is a good choice- it's flatter to begin with. I like to use it and boost color to +3/+4. I also like the fact that it'll take shadow adjustments with a bit more subtlety compared to other simulations (at least to my eye).

I'm also becoming more and more a fan of Reala Ace in general. Someone else described it as a good Provia with a bit more pop, and I agree. I find it can be dialed up and down the color/shadow/highlight scale a bit more effectively. I think it also takes on some lovely different looks depending on wb tweaks. It's for sure a bit of a subjective topic, but my .02 cents. 🙂

Have you tried the custom recipes at all? Film.recipes and fujixweekly are two good sources. Might help dial something in before you have to even think about tweaking it. Both have phone apps available that let you store/save favorites.
