....and what were the first ones? Which ones have been removed over the years?

It seems like it was mentioned back during the closure scare.

The DPReview forums go back to the beginning of the site, with some operating back to 1999.

I can't find any info about which forums were first, but it's a safe bet that they would have been relevant to the cameras being introduced back then. (The Canon PowerShot forum has threads all the way back to 1999, for example.)

We don't keep a running list of forums we've closed, but that number is very small. However, one example is our old Off Topic forum. It was intended to be a place where people could discuss non-photography topics, but at some point, it became too much of a distraction, so we decided to close it.

You can also get an idea of the age of a forum by looking at the forum ID. If you hover over each forum listed in the Forums menu and look at the URL, each has a 4-digit ID. For example, this Site Feedback and Help forums is forum ID 5001.

Look for the forums starting at 1000 and they are likely the forums that have been around for the longest. For example, I just checked the Samsung Talk forum (ID 1001) and it has a first post showing as April 22nd 1999.

Forum 1000 is the News and Rumors forum and the oldest post there was April 10th 1999

"Printers and printing", forum 1003, has a post from Phil Askey, dated Jan 28, 1999.

Hmmm, I didn't think about the forum ID number. I just went to Open Talk (no particular reason), went back to page 4 then changed the "4&view" number to some crazy high number (like 9000) and the page will show the last one. Click it and the first post in that forum is at the bottom.

News and Rumors started January 30, 1999.

I was thinking that there was a period of just articles, news and announcements prior to the forums. Thanks for setting that straight.

I can see what kind of a mess an Off Topic forum would be these days.

The beginning of the Samsung Talk forum has nothing to do with Samsung at all.

It is a LOT of Nikon 990/995, Olympus, Kodak, Minolta, Polaroid, Toshiba, JVC......all crammed in there together!
