What the he** is going on with the forum!!!!

It upsets you that men rule the world..doesn't it?
LOL! And you're all doing SUCH a great job, aren't you? ..................:o) sorry, could not resist that one.............K.

Sad…so sad.
a)I did not ask you if your education level was higher than mine
nor did I compare my education level to yours. Duh? Your ego was
just “bust’in” to get people to believe you have
a MS. Like that is believable to begin with.
Yes, I do have an MS in Engineering and if you'd like you can check
it out by calling Drexel Univ in Philadelphia. You know my name,
unlike you I don't hide my last name. Kathy from MD. What part of
MD?
b) The “piggy” ref still shot over your head. You
still don’t get it. I suppose the MS Degree curriculum from
K-mart does not have any English lit requirement
Nope, never said I had an MS in English
c) Beating your chest excite me?? How pitiful. The fact that
you are asking indicates your how poor your sel-esteem really is
along with the attempted boast of a figment degree in ‘a
‘ above.
It was a joke. See, that's the problem with you. You don't know
when people are joking with you. You have to learn to get a sense
of humor. I have no problem with self esteem. I'm happily
married, have three kids, own my own business and am very
successful- thank you. And, since you're still talking degrees, or
the doubt of mine, I will be more than happy to scan it and send it
to you..
d) I have reviewed some of your other post to this forum.
Wow, I really did get to you. Starting to wonder who I was before
you started insulting me. That is weak.

It would
seem you have a penchant for poking fun and ridiculing others.
Nope, just a penchant for voicing my opinion just like you voice
yours.

You
feel good when you do that don’t ya? You feel like a bigger
man?
It upsets you that men rule the world..doesn't it? You probably
talk about your male boss behind his back too. I know your kind.

That fake MS degree is not good enough to carry you through
There goes the degree stuff again. As I said, I'll be more than
happy to scan my degree and email it to you. You sound pretty
insecure yourself. What is your degree in? Secondary Education.
I'm right about the Kindergarten teaher- aren't I?
The feeling is mutual hun!!

So, here I sit, looking at all .............................................

So, I dig .......................... injustice or malicious behavior
So, what did I find?

I found posturing, chest-beating, immaturity, and irrational behavior.
Kathy

I'm not sure if your beating your chest between your post to Rob Muller but I do see a little of the other three you mentioned in your comments to Rob.
Take photographs, critique yourself, learn, ask question, and repeat.
Better take some of your own medicine.......find a serene setting and take some pix!

Nicholas,

I can't disagree with anything you say, and I too believe that freedom of speech is a fundamental right that is inviolate.

I guess all i'm saying is the following: If there was a way to separate the posts dealing with "op-ed" types of issues from the ones dealing directly with photographic concerns I'd be in favor of that.

Having said that, if it isn't possible then I'd come down on the side of freedom of speech and wade through the posts. Denying them the ability to express their opinion is not an option.

Best,

Ken G
I found posturing, chest-beating, immaturity, and irrational behavior.

I used to drop by here and give and receive tips on photography and
using digital equipment. Where has that gone?
I think you have made some valid points. However, I would like to
point out:
1) The internet is a great tool. I wish I could eliminate junk and
porn mail from my computer, but I can't (at least not totally).
Does that make the entire internet worthless? No. I ignore and move
on to sites I enjoy and learn from.
2) Forums are great tools. I have picked up many great tips from
them. We all choose which ones we can follow and participate in -
if bashing doesn't interest you, go the other way, nobody is
forcing you to see the whole spectacle. If you don't care for a
television show, what do you do - keep watching and then grouse
about it?
3) Judgemental perhaps? IMHO, when someone has a "photographic" or
digital problem, I am not going to sit here and say that they have
no right to voice their opinion. I do believe that's how they
operate in IRAQ! If I personally see no merit in their arguments, I
close the window and open another one. Posts about lawsuits and
complaints may be extremely important to the posters. These are
people speaking their minds. What you consider "junk posts" may be
very heart-felt opinions from a person who is looking for help and
advise.
4) In case you haven't noticed, there are a ton of forums out
there. Maybe you can find one more to your liking.
5) I think Phil has done a great job in managing this web-site.
Moderating must be very difficult with all of the diverse opinions.

Please do not take this personally. Your opinion has been voiced
many times previously, as so has my reply.

Friendly your,
Nicholas

Yes it is, and Nikon is laughing the loudest...on their way to the bank :)

So, here I sit, looking at all the threads and the first 9 out of
10 are about either a petition or a lawsuit.

So, I dig further and look for the injustice or malicious behavior
that would require such actions.

So, what did I find?

I found posturing, chest-beating, immaturity, and irrational behavior.

provided update information and bashing (yes bashing again) of the
person that provides the forum and provides in-depth reviews.

I truly believe the energy put into these child-like high school
cafeteria activities should be diverted to learning the craft and
art of photography. This camera is just another tool – like
a brush to a painter or a chisel to a sculptor. If the tool does
not work, get a new one – technology does not drive artistry.
Talent transcends the technology. Suing the toolmaker because he
wants to repair it for FREE is ludicrous.

Right - sometimes point of perspective (yours in this case) is 20/20.

Thanks Dan and peace to you as well.

There are no strangers. Only friends we haven't met.

Teppo,

Sorry, I missed your reply until now. The troll comment had two meanings. The first one is a reference to a stereotype person who jumps into a thread or starts one with a controversial statement seemingly calculated to stimulate an argument. (frankly, I think you know what is meant by that term). Your first comment met that criteria.

The second one seemed humorous since you were from Finland and as I recall the mythincal trollls are from scandanavia (perhaps Finalnd?) Sorry if it may have offended you, or worse, it wasn't humorous!

Certainly you're free to speak your mind as I am. I used to own the 5000. It was okay but it took too long to get a firmware upgrade. I replaced it with the D100. It was too slow for capturing my grandchildren at play. I am very pleased with the D110. I also have the 990 which I will never sell. You can't do voerhead shots with the D100.

I think the issue of sending in the D100 for the upgrade is "small potatoes" as we say here in the U.S. I mentioned my reasons in another post in which I tried to bring it in perspective. Basically, we all have, or know persons who have experienced personal tragedy and having to split the mailing charges for sending the camera in for a free upgrade doesn't warrant such a furor, or a lawsuit.

Nor am I interested in drawing out an exchange. I wish you well with your 5700 and hope you are pleased with it.

I am responsible for a small application development unit with U.S. Customs. One of the programmers in the unit is Named Annele Hamalainen, also from Finland, a small town outsike Helsinki named Mikele, I think. She just told me that trolls are not Finnish, but Norwegian. Oh well, it seemed funny. The wife and I travel to Europe each Spring. We hope to visit your area one day, perhaps with a side trip to St. Petersburg. For now, though there are too many stories of "problems" in Russia.

Regards,

Rich
If you don't have a Nikon DSLR, why are your trolling here? Oh, I
forgot...Finland
A nice troll post? Hehe. Go figure :)
Anyway, yes, true, I don't have a Nikon DSLR, but that doesn't, as
far as I know, mean I can't read stuff in this forum and even
gasp make posts. Let's just say that I have a general interest in
cameras.
As for trolling... I'm sorry if you think I'm trolling, that wasn't
my intention. I was merely showing my disbelief on the actions of
some of the people here. If I'd get a firmware update to my CP5700,
I'd be happy to send it to Nikon for them to do that, just to get
it. I really can't understand why people are about to sue Nikon for
offering a free upgrade! Unless you're a pro who has to have the
camera for his work, you shouldn't have too much trouble with this.
And in no case should on consider suing them for this! Not that I'm
saying everyone is doing this, but some seem to.
As for me being from Finland, what has that got to do with
anything? I can do that too... "Bah, them stupid foreigners, always
suing everyone for everything." :)

Finland is a fabulous country. Beautiful landscape, wonderful people, and reasonable prices. We have visited there several times, and you don't need to go to St. Petersburg to enjoy the trip. IMHO, Helsinki is one of the most pleasant cities in the world. If it were me, I would go the other direction and visit Finland along with a trip to Sweden and Norway (if you have enough time). If you do, take a ferry (they are really very large and sophisticated ships) between Helsinki and Stockholm. The archipelego in the Baltic provides incredibly scenery. July is the best time for such a trip, and hotel fares are lowest in the summer (which I still don't understand).

Best,

GPP

Thanks! We've puttered around the U.K. for years now and plan going to Tuscany next Spring. Perhaps the year after that we'll go north. We thought about the Netherlands and Copenhagen, but it never went any where. We were trying to squeeze in Stockholm and Helsinki in to the trip and it got to be too much to try.

We're a couple of "early" old folks and greatly enjoy strolling about the city centers, museums, cathedrals, museums, castles and, if any, neolithic sites, and casula shopping for curios and artwork (prints & watercolors).

I have a ton of great shots from Ireland and Scotland (my favorite so far). I finally figured out how to use PBase, and even sent them some money. So soon I'll be submitting pics with questions on improving the shots.

Well, I guess it kinda did.

Hmm, no, you didn't offend me, but I was slightly puzzled as to what you meant :)

Yes... while I like the EOS 600 better than the CP5700 in many aspects, the CP5700's swivel LCD is one thing that really rocks. Too bad DSLRs don't have one, it's so useful that it would be justified :) Honestly! I use it extensively for much more convenience in shooting things.

As for firmware, yeah, I hope a CP5700 firmware update comes out soon, with all these others coming. There are a few things I'd like to have fixed.
I think the issue of sending in the D100 for the upgrade is "small

Well, as pleased as I could be with any current non-DSLR digital camera :p

This troll-thing is curious, I really can't recall what it's about. Then again my memory has more holes than substance :) And maybe it's just the 'foreign name' that makes the trolls elusive :)

And Mikele? Hmm. Don't know any town named that, but thinking of how that is pronounced, you probably mean Mikkeli, though that isn't (by Finnish standards) 'outside Helsinki'... I mean, yes, it's outside Helsinki, but farther away, 200km I think. That's a long way in Finnish standards :)

There are nice landscapes, yeah, though if you live in Finland you get accustomed to them, and they easily start to feel somewhat boring and not-so-special. It IS happening to me, I'd sure want to visit some foreign countries to get totally different kind of landscapes to shoot at :)

As for people... well, I guess the people are as good as elsewhere, hard to say since I don't really know any foreigners in person, LOL :) Though I don't usually like people much in general, so I'm not the best possible judge ;)

And what comes to prices... well, it depends on what you are buying. Electronics are usually expensive. Like cameras :) Don't know how foodstuffs etc compare, though.

At least in Finland summer is probably the cheapest because most tourists seem to visit Finland in the winter, to experience the vast amount of snow and stuff. Especially those who visit Lapland, of course.

Troll, if I remember from my childhood, is a mythical "gnome" who lives under bridges in scandanavia. I guess the American equivalent would be a "boogeyman" who frightens little children. Perhaps we have someone who could enlighten both of us.

I was surprised, frankly, that the D100 did not have a swing-out LCD. But now that I have gotten used to seeing all the information presented in the D100 viewfinder I can see how it would be of little valuel on an SLR camera. After all, holding the camera at arm's length you wouldn't be able to read the information on the 2" LCD to be able to make the adjustments. I'm keeping the 990 in case I wind up at an event which I can't get close to. That often happens traveling.

I hope you will soon be able to "move up" to a digital SLR.

200km..that really isn't close. I'll have to ask her if I had it right.

Regards

Well, yeah, I know what trolls are in general, but I thought these might be something more specific, as your mail confirmed - I've never thought that they'd be specifically Scandinavian, that's why I was a little confused. I didn't remember that 'under the bridge' thing before you now mentioned it :)

Hmm? I have rather bad vision, yet I can see the settings on the CP5700's 1.5" LCD on arms length just fine :) Not to mention that I usually just need to see the composition and where the focus point is, rather than the settings.

The optical viewfinder on SLRs is great, like on the EOS 600, but the swiveling viewfinder would be great to have too.
I hope you will soon be able to "move up" to a digital SLR.
So do I. And I'm also hoping I can get that Yashica-A TLR I just got to a working condition. Shooting 6x6cm slides sure would be way cool ;) Could buy a Yashica-D that'd be in better condition, but currently I can't see how I could afford one :/
