What is missing from the E620?

HD video is surely the 'nice to have' feature for 2009?

:(
Please list waht you think is missing from the E620. I don't think it
has enough focus points and it should be weathersealed. I woulld be
wary about buying this camera as olympus has a track record of
releasing a new model with more features and better specs a few
months later. I bet their is an E630 or an E700 waiting to be
released.

Video, whether HD or SD, No thank you. I buy SLRs to shoot still pictures only.

If I wanted to shoot video I would use a dedicated movie camera. Movies on an SLR camera is a sales gimmick, and has nothing to do with serious amateur photography. Leave video mode for the point and shoot cameras, but for SLRs please spend the money on improving image quality (especially Olympus) instead of slapping gimmicks on our cameras!

I don't think there's still two years to wait and it will likely to be smaller than the E-3 after all the user complaints.

Let an amateur camera be an amateur camera. For the list price of only $699, it already offers A LOT!

Cheers

Give us a break! making yet-another great camera is no crime. With electronics you rarely have more than a couple of months "bragging rights" before something better comes along. Buy good glass and enjoy the bodies improving to allow you to take better advantage of it.

exactly, I'm waiting for it too. imaging OM VF on it and smaller body.

E-620 has nice features but I'll wait for the other announcements from Olympus.

the new camera is great step at this time. no complain.

And you never got more for your money, from any manufacturer, ever. I don't know how Olympus can afford it to pack all that in the E620, to be honest.

I don't understand why so many are trying to find fault. Human nature I guess. For $699 MSRP I will be first in line to purchase. Is it perfect, of course not. Neither is a D90, XSi, or E-30. But now I can use my great Olympus glass on a compact body that exploits the main benefits of the 4/3's system.

Here's a camera with the best specs anybody can find at this price.

And here's already the 1st post asking what's missing on it, as well
as people complaining that it has no weather sealing, or whatever
costly feature that NOT everybody wants.
I'll probably change my 520 for this one. (In fact i just sold my e-520)

However:

Weathersealing does NOT have to add very much to the cost. Look at Pentax.

For Oly to have such a WP'd medium tier lens setup it seems to me unbelievable that they do not come with a small/light WP'd body.

It probably means they sell enough of the entry level models already that they still don't need to cash in on this fact.

Personally i'd also prefer it to be a little bigger and use the larger battery. To me this will be a #2 body, and i have enough chargers already.

Still, i bet this one will sell like hot meatbolls in dry grass.

Seems the death of 4/3 is not before summer afterall.

Btw did anyone see if the 620 has the electronic leveler ?

Off the top of my head, I'd change the xD card slot for an SD slot. It's not happening, of course, but I wish it was.

My other worry is that the grip may not be large enough. I found the 520 much easier to hold than the 420, I don't know whether the in-between grip of the 620 will feel comfortable to me. I might, therefore, go for a slightly larger grip with the larger battery in it. However, if the grip is adequate then I would leave this alone.

It even has a white balance detector on the right. This will dramatically improved one of the 520/420 shortcomings : auto-WB

Personnaly the swivel LCD is an excellent idea. As a museum curator, I am using my E1 and E-520 while documenting restoration work. I so often whished I had a swivel LCD when taking pictures from below (without having to pay for a E-3 or E-30) that now, one of my dreams has come true !

Something that stood out to me because I am currently am ( edit was) looking at buying the E-30 is the 11 point focus. The 620 has a 7 point focus "unless" you are in live view then it goes to 11 point kinda strange. I might still get the e-30 with the release of the 620 being in May and I just sold my 510 body and my lens I dont think can wait that long. Here is the exert from their site that says that.

LIVE VIEW AF: ELEVEN POINT IMAGER AUTOFOCUS.

In Live View the E-620 uses the advanced Autofocus technology of the E-30 with 11 dedicated AF points for fast and accurate focus. Whether using the face detection feature or close focusing on a flower, this system provides quick response times and is a simple as just pressing the shutter button. You no longer have to wait, Live View is now fast and simple -- no harder than a point and shoot.

Actually, this is the one thing that is missing. The strobing in low light of the E520 is intrusive, and not very effective. It is my only niggle with the E520, and I am almost happy they didn't fix that on the 620, because now I can actually resist the temptation of going out and buying one!

I'm concerned about its battery life too. The E-620 is very close to being my ideal camera, at its price point, but I like to be able to shoot a couple of hours non-stop on a single battery and I doubt if the E-620 will do that, particularly with its swivel screen that makes live view (power hog) so appealing.

This camera seems to be the real tweener that everybody has been waiting for.
A great size/feature/price compromise.

I am still distracted by micro 4/3rds with the potential for a much smaller 12-60 lens and HD video recording capability though.

..if the E-620 will have the often-requested One Touch White Balance in its WB menu?

I love that it has a WB sensor btw (and the button lay-out on the back looks great too).

And does anyone know if it will have an IR sensor on its back to use with a remote? (I see a tiny little window on the back, but it looks white. I think it's there to see if the button illumination should be turned on).
