Please list waht you think is missing from the E620. I don't think it has enough focus points and it should be weathersealed. I woulld be wary about buying this camera as olympus has a track record of releasing a new model with more features and better specs a few months later. I bet their is an E630 or an E700 waiting to be released.

Its more than I could have hoped for, really.
All in all, a very solid set of features for a competitive price.
This was very well thought out.

Olympus: Very well done!

Nothing for me at this price range. However, I would LOVE to see a pro version of a camera not too much bigger than this.

And you won't see it unless you want to spend more money.

Then wait.

Yep. And after than the 810 and then the 820, and then a huge technological revolution will strike rendering all these things obsolete ... your best defense is to buy nothing. Ever.

By the way, what computer do you use and how much did you pay for it?

Seeing is believing.

I don't think it's missing anything. It's the Olympus camera I have been waiting for.

And get a PT_E06_E_620 if waterproof is of concern.
(My E-400 still works without the need for weather seals).

What's missing?
Maybe Bluetooth to get GPS communication into EXIF.

Weathersealing would whack up the price by at least another $200, which would lose Olympus a whole chunk of the market.

Then you never will buy a camera, there will always be new models round the corner.

About your original question:
  • an SD slot
  • wheaterseal (nice to have but not essential, a lot more important is to keep the price down)
  • video
I also hope they reduced the size of the BLS1 charger, the one included in the E-400 was huge which did not make sense if you're trying to keep everything small and light.

I cannot find anything wrong with this camera and if I had the cash I would buy it when it comes out.

seriously, since the camera has been announced all you have done is complain about little details. Any company will always release better products later on- that's technology for you. If you don't like that, buy something else.

It strikes me you want something for nothing. This camera at the price is set is not just good but quite incredibly competitive.

Quick_ name any DSLR in the world with in-body IS, capable of commanding several groups of flashes wirelessly with articulated live view, access to quality lenses from the low end to the highest end in the entire manufacturer line for this mount, with built in pixel mapping, dedicated white balance sensor, illuminated back buttons, ability to develop RAW files in-camera?

Andreas Feininger (1906-1999) 'Photographers — idiots, of which there are
so many — say, “Oh, if only I had a Nikon or a Leica, I could make great
photographs.” That’s the dumbest thing I ever heard in my life. It’s
nothing but a matter of seeing, and thinking, and interest. That’s what
makes a good photograph.'

If it would use the larger battery from the E-520, rather than the smaller E-420 battery, it would be perfect IMO.

The battery grip is no option, adding a lot of bulk and weight for a mere doubling of battery capacity if I understood correctly (thus bringing it just above what a BLM-1 would have offered?).

This probably wouldn't add much bulk or weight overall, the battery size difference is quite small compared to the body. I guess they went for the smaller battery to claim all the weight advantage they could.

You certainly don't have to buy an e-420.

I understand having a prospeced weathersealed e-620 would be great, but you put the e-620 down without the context of the price and market it's in.
I'm willing to pay top dollar for my ideal camera. I'm not going to
buy cheap cameras just to please olympus.

No, it will bring it noticeably higher than a single DLM-1.

Yup, and size.

at this price point, nothing. For me, specs are just perfect. I would pay 2 to 300$ more for watersealing, but that's just me.

...who wishes it had HD video?

HD video is surely the 'nice to have' feature for 2009?

I don't know why you are even looking at an e-620- it's clearly not for you. The e-620 was never meant to be a follow up to an E-1 and if your true ideal is an E-1, neither is the size anyway.

Yes but your 'ideal' camera would not necessarily many sell units. Remember Olympus are a company looking to make a profit. They are not a charity. Cameras need to hit price points within the market and target large groups of people. Weather sealing would cost a lot of extra money. Lots of people would not be willing to pay this. You might but not every one.

The G1 HD will be coming soon (maybe).
Something like HD would spoil it for me.

I really prefer Oly to keep concentrating on building great still
cameras.
